Yes, I know, Velious is a long way off and any considerations beyond that are even further out. Still I think it's fun to discuss what may/may not be possible (or interesting) to the Devs when that time comes.

If the number of face options isn't baked into the client or otherwise unchangeable, I think it'd be sweet to have a bigger selection of faces per race. Seems to me everybody wins here: it's not going the way of Luclin models — which apparently everybody detests — and it gives us a little more character uniqueness.

Just my 2cp.

Tangent: maybe months/years down the line we could have a forum sub-section for post-Velious brainstorming? Or does it already exist and I'm blind?

They are clientside. I'm also fairly sure they do not plan to do anything post-Velious.

They are clientside.

I know the graphics are, but are you certain the code itself enforces client only? It would've been more scalable if they'd done something like:

* client passes input (i.e. race) to server
* server responds with either total count of faces or a full list of images corresponding to files in client folder
* client cycles through results accordingly

Then again, I'm sure quite a bit of EQ code is neither scalable nor sensical.

I'm also fairly sure they do not plan to do anything post-Velious

Where was this officially stated? I've seen posts where it was stated that they would "evaluate" what direction, if anywhere, to take things after Velious. I certainly didn't get the impression that everything was on lockdown after Velious and no ideas could be entertained.
