Hey all, was just tolda bout this server from a friend I work with. I played a whole lot back in the old days, mostly as a wizard. I am defienitely going to be rolling a char on here. Just having a hard time figureing out which class to play.

What classes seem to be lacking? I am kind of leaning towards an enchanter or possibly a cleric, but still not sure.

Thanks in advance for any feedback! See you all soon!

Nothing is lacking. Kunark been out so long, most people have multiple twinked characters of every class.

So play whatever is personally exciting to you, don't waste your time trying to fill some perceived need. There is none.

In every game there is lack of healers and CC. Ench/CLeric will make you more wanted than a tall dude with a six pack and huge schlong

Mid-levels are short on tanks. High levels need DPS and clerics for raids. Enchanters are useful in groups at all levels, but enjoy twiddling your thumbs in raids.

I would suggest making a class that is not very gear dependent and can solo relatively well for starters, such as a Mage, Druid, or Necro. Once you are able to farm certain PP camps easily, you can make an alt that you truly love and have a little bit of an easier time doing so.

Mid-levels are short on tanks.Pets, rogues, and monks seem to be the most common tanks in the middle. Would be nice to have more plate classes there.

You said you played a wizard in the past. That's certainly a class that is a bit lacking on p99 on the /w all count lists. :)

There's a glut of enchanters in the 20 and under category right now.

Also, alot of clerics, but not necessarily good ones. Consider a shaman if you want to be a functional healer, over cleric. At least then, if you have to solo (because people would rather get their twinked alts PL'd by their Friend On A Second Account), it's not as painful.

In most if not all MMO's tanks are always the least common. And I don't necessarily mean tank classes. Just someone who is good enough to tank. Smashing a heal or dps button over and over for 60 levels is easy. (lots of complaints about bad monks. this is really only because monks are a very popular twink class, and in my experience the richest twinks are always the worst at everything) Proper tanking and proper CC mean everything and take skill.

My only suggestion is that you pick a class that can solo if need be because sometimes there are no groups to be found.

For tank that would be SK imo.
For healer that would be Druid or Shaman imo (Cleric is ok vs undead obv.)
For int casters it's all of them (Mage has a laid back style, Necro is powerful but you have to pay attention/kite a lot)
For melee dps Monk imo.

Despite the mages, particularly Necromancer being 'solo' classes; they aren't easy by any means. Just acquiring a significant amount of bone chips can be a hassle early on. And when you want to group, they get looked down upon by the average players.

They only become really worthwhile later on when you are able to solo significantly above your level and in hostile areas.

Contrary to popular belief, melee have a much better experience gain rate because of their ability to play in and out of groups.
It also comes down to gear. A Rogue or Ranger with nice equipment can do very well for themselves.

If I could spend time leveling something it would be Paladin or Ranger.

Not sure how bone chips are difficult to get. They are available anywhere and in great numbers. When I first started on this server the first few hundred plat I made was all from selling bone chips and HQ bear skins. Now that I think about it that was with a necro

I think I did alright w/ rogue as first character.

It's different being a rogue when everyone had at best a goddamn jambiya and being a rogue now where your t-staff fungi tunic cof monk really doesn't need you there right now :P You basically dickride til the mid 50s til you can actually gear yourself appropriately.

As for OP--something you can farm with. Shaman is the obvious choice but until 24 its soooo boring and not really good til 34. Torpor makes the class so don't get discouraged til you're 60 and swagged out.

Any caster is a solid choice as a first character.. and honestly most melee will be ok starting out you will just be semi gimp until you hit 50 or so .

Also if you go enchanter they are arguable one of the best farming classes in the game along with necro / sham
