View Full Version : Coming soon: Classic spell gems/Updated Velious UI

-Many Velious UI improvements. No xml errors when loading, readability, dynamic class icon. Alpha layers cleaned up. Removal of unneeded buttons (shared bank, face, etc)

-High quality original spell gems. Currently the client chooses the color of the gem, and its blurry and ugly.

-Functional /gems game. With proper alignment of the gemicons, the /gems game is fixed.

-Customizable gems. Don't like classic ones? That's fine. Currently we use 23 slots, and the client determines the background color. With the new method, it will triple the possibilities for custom gems.

Many thanks to Savok who did almost all of the graphic work for these improvements. DOACleric assisted with this, and I did the queries to align all the spells to their new respective gem icons. (/wrists)

Just a heads up to all those UI modders out there, this is a huge change as far as gemiconXX and spellXX tga files go. I know some of you like to mod the spells_us.txt and some of you prefer to modify the graphic files directly. I'm pretty sure that the final versions are now in and I'm happy (if its ok by Nilbog) to release the files to modders via PM.

Will this be a UI we'll have to apply? Or will it just "change" when I log in?

Assuming the spells_us.txt file will be part of the eqchanges.zip file then yes this will be the new baseline to work from (ie, this will become the default UI). You can of course use your own UI and modify the gem/spell icon tga files and/or the spells_us.txt file as you so wish.

For the modders out there, I have almost finished a gem set with the standard yellow icons (buff icons) in 40x40 (spellsXX.tga) and 24x24(gemiconxx.tga)sizes with the base layout of the new icons repeated to cover for the 6 different colors (red, yellow, green, blue, purple, orange) and to allow for the /gems game to work correctly. This is an ideal template to use for modifying your own UI.

Basically these files can be uses as a base for any square gem UI with color boarders until a modder fixes theirs (it will be available to everyone on the server update).

Eagerly awaiting this UI. With that said, it lacks mana in the inventory. If mana could be added right under HP it would be really nice.

The new default will be 'classic' but there will be an extras zip that I will post up for those who want a few of the more modern options. Just find the file you want to update and drop it into your default folder. OR, if you prefer, you can make a new UI folder and drop them in there and use /loadskin <folder name> to keep the default seperate.

Gonna try and have this up for d/loading today.

Since the stats on the spells in the .txt hasn't changed, only the icon alignment, you should be able to experiment with the new spells_us.txt file and the UI to see everything normally.

This will replace our default Velious UI d/load, so we are giving you a head start to get used to it and give modders time to mod :P

Overall it is a good change. Classic for classic people, and 3x as many slots for people that don't want the classic UI.

how can you figure out how much mana you have in with this interface.

You either look at the blue bar in the player window for a guesstimate (Velious UI), check your inventory window for a number value, or download the player window extras in my sig for optional choices.

Im stupid. Please break this down crayola-style for me, as it's my only gripe with the Velious UI. I didnt find this file/DL in your sig, or the threads it links to. Sorry. :)
