I see far too many posts on this forum slamming the community here so I figured I'd post something to counter.

Let me start by saying this: If you are the kind of person who wants to spend your days farming the top end content Kunark has to offer; you might run into some kind of drama. I can't vouch for that.

BUT, if you're like me and enjoyed solo/group levelling in this game 12-13 years ago and want to re-live and re-experience the early/mid/late casual levelling game as it was back then; you're going to have fun and run into a lot of generous and kind people.

I've had nothing but positive experiences so far. Whether it has been random buffs, gifts of valuable (for a newbie) items, help with corpse runs and re-binding, or generous overpayment for simple early-game items; I've been having a blast and meeting great people at every turn.

Kudos to everyone. I've been playing here for 3 weeks now and I'm having a great time. I'd encourage anyone who loves this game to jump in and experience it here.

Yeah, server is a lot of fun.

Endgame was an extreme weak point for classic EQ anyway, the trip up is a lot more fun. As is making alts.

I would have to say that starting back up is awesome. Everyone is generally nice and it can be a rewarding way to spend some free time.

Also thanks to everyone who's sow'd and buff'd me during my play over the past cpl of nights its been awesome.

BTW 13 warrior lfg pst.

Another dirty secret: Those guilds that seem to always be getting lots of bad press-- won't name names-- contain lots of swell, generous types. Even in my brief 6 months on the server, I've stopped counting the helpful.

I would agree with you, I haven't even started playing yet but I have been casually browsing these forums for about a month now just reading about the server. I am excited to start playing the version of EQ I loved. I started when Kunark was first release and played all the way up to PoP and then quit. I recently tried playing again on the live servers only to be disappointed with being able to solo everything with Mercs and not having to look for groups and enjoy the community.

I'm looking foward to actually having to group again to get things done unlike every other game I have played since EQ.

If you have any sense stay off of the Forums. Reading the crap on here makes it sound like this is the worse server in the world. It is just the other way around. The Devs do their job a lot better than people see. It is pretty hands off and that is great. Glad to see new blood on here.

Ignore us old, grumpy turds on the forums. We are bored. :p

Yeah I'm not overly worried about it. Just hard not to notice all the bashing going on, and if I'm going to be playing on this server I will definetly be on the forums from time to time so whatever. I just want to enjoy my favorite MMO again.

Heh, I enjoy the bashing on the forums and top end guild wars is all part of the game. If the top guilds didn't have to fight for mobs and be challenged, would they really still be playing or quit from boredom?

Touche sir. I mean really that was part of the game being so much fun for me, you finally find a group after say 30 - 1 hour of searching only find out that the spot you wanted in some zone is already taken by another group. The realistic competition for mobs was awesome, not like the damn instanced zones for everything now.

This * 1000.

Even sitting at 60 though, there is lots of fun to be had outside of poopsocking or tracking or logging off your main at a boss who is due. There are friends to help, epics to get, plat to be made, zones to be explored, etc.

Just make sure you play a class that is desirable. If you play a hybrid you will get passed up for many groups if they can snag a non hybrid.

^ ^ Been on the server 4 months about. Before I went on the forums I was blissfully ignorant of all the drama. Hell, as far as I could tell TMO was a bunch if stand up dudes. Shit's classic!

I played for over a year before I even joined the forums. My son warned me. Heh.

I group a lot with TMO. Port a lot of them. Hey they are mostly all really nice people that buff, rez, help out with hard mobs etc. I mean they do have the top mobs tied up a lot I will admit in Raids. But that is what top guilds do. Do I wish it was better, sure. But it is what it is.

There is a lot of planes gear to be had they don't even bother with. Just a few classes that you will never get a epic for until Velious comes out, and I play three of those a lot lol. But this server is still the best thing going. Welcome aboard.

TC should play what he wants. He doesn't have to play a pure to be desirable later. Check out some of the recruiting guilds and you'll see that their demand for Hybrids like Paladins and Bards is high.

Apparently tanks of any kind are such a low population that people are perfectly happy with paladins and SKs as it means they don't need to rely on shaman/ranger tanking.

But that's only what I've heard anyway, I haven't leveled my paladin past 9 yet.

Well, Warrior tanks ARE preferred because of their higher damage mitigation and damage output, but Paladins and SK's are better at spike aggro thanks to ED/Blind/Stuns, and therefore have an easier time maintaining aggro without good weapons.

So long as you aren't infringing on their epic-selling campaign then many are happy to throw a few plat or starter equipment your way.

Personally I'm excited about hitting 60 and trying some solo challenge stuff, after clicking your sig and reading through that thread.

Solo challenge stuff is pretty amusing in my experience. I suspect we'll hit The Hole soon.

I've been on the server for about 3 1/2 years with some breaks and some times (like this year) with very low play time. Even with the extended Kunark timeline, I find plenty to do all the time. I think the only people running out of things to do are the most hardcore raiders.

What people say, and what people do are totally different. People say on the forum and ingame that they would gladly take anyone good at their class, but a good Ranger will never do more DPS than a good Rogue. So they will skip a Ranger to get a Rogue, even if he was waiting an hour to join the group.

EDIT: Same thing with a Warrior and Paladin/SK.

EDIT: Same thing with a Warrior and Paladin/SK.

There is never a situation in which the dps difference between a rogue and a ranger is even remotely relevant to 99% of groups on this server.. Every group outgears content by such a ridiculous margin that min/maxing your group to take on the content is beyond absurd. Mobs explode seconds after the group targets them, and wipes are almost entirely related to pulls gone wrong, an enchanter pet going haywire, or someone breaking cc.

Now, the exp penalty, on the other hand, will dissuade some groups. Can't do much about those kinds of people.

The xp penalty in my opinion is WAY over hyped. If you don't have a tank and a big fat Ogre SK shows up he is in. Or even a uglier Troll SK shows up guess what, He is in. You are not going to sit there for a hour waiting for one of 20 Warriors in the game to show up. By then the group would break up. And if it is a Guildie you sure as hell am not going to turn them down.

I know it does make a difference XP wise but hell it is just part of the game.

You've never leveled a hybrid if you think the penalty is overhyped.

The exp penalty's affect on groups is definitely overhyped. It's sad how many people think 40% of the group's exp disappears when an SK joins or whatever.

The penalty is barely even noticable in most situations.

But I wont be able to raid VP. Not that I want to. And I won't ever pass 55. But that's beside the point. Whole game ruined for me
