Xbox One -- Microsoft confirms its new console MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 24 HOURS.

After doing so you'll be allowed to game, offline, for a maximum of 24(real world, not game-time) hours.

Well it was OFFICIALLY confirmed today, indirectly by Konami during their pre-E3 thing.

I'm sure Microsoft is real happy, lol

I'm getting to the age where im about to throw out my tv, ive already gotten rid of my cell phone. the older i get the less i see technology as being vital, simply a distraction,

Sounds like they just want to make it into Windows 8..well I have a computer that I do everything on that I don't even need a console (outside of my PS3). Emulation of older consoles and Free streaming/Netflix is the way to go. Then hook it up through HDMI to my projector that can get up to 80 inches? Yeah, Xbox One can take a place in a "no thank you" bin. Add in this news and paying for old games, Micro$oft should just remove itself from the industry because everyone I know wants nothing to do with the Xbox One even after years of supporting the Xbox 360 > PS3.

I'll probably end up getting a PS4 tho, as I've always supported Sony and it's nice to have the newest gen console. Just happens Sony provides me the best service and isn't after me for my money (not as obvious atleast).

Hardware wise the XboxOne and PS4 are almost identical. I doubt there will be many games that are on one and not the other unless its a licensing thing. MS owns it, Sony owns it, etc.

For this reason, I don't think it'll need to be connected to the internet in the end. Regardless of whether its confirmed or not. They'll most likely reverse that if not before than after launch when more people find out about it.

Actually no they aren't. PS4 has a serious upper hand.

GDDR5 RAM vs. DDR3 AND the Xbox OS has 3GB dedicated to the OS.

PS4 has a faster CPU and GPU also.

In the grand scheme of what you will notice or won't, they are virtually identical. That extra horsepower will probably never get used and the PS4 will once again likely cost $100 more for no reason.

"for no reason"

Such as having better hardware, again? lol

History lesson for you. When the Xbox released and had strictly better hardware (not arguably better but strictly) and they both cost $299 until almost 2 years later when PS2 had the first price drop. Yet you dingbats keep fanboying the company that rapes your wallet so hard and making up baseless excuses.

Xbox almost 3 times the processing power and twice the ram while also utilizing 32 bit colors vs PS2's 24bit and that's just scratching the surface, the raw processing power of the Xbox when you added up all of the hardware was 120 GFLOPS against PS2's measly 6.2 GFLOPS.

But you'll argue that Sony is fine charging you more for "better" hardware.

Kagatob
06-07-2013, 03:57 PM
You're actually going to make that argument. The argument that the prices for 2 consoles at the beginning of the war had anything to do with the end size of their respective libraries 5 years later.

Negatory. PS4 isn't bundling a HAL9000 Kinect, and the RAM is being used in a more effective manner to handle OS/Update tasks than the Xbone is. Add in more GPU/CPU power and yes, it will be noticeably faster.

Well for me, the big thing about the PS4 would be fact I have a 6-core AMD cpu.

Gonna be fuckin AMAZING when games actually start using all my CPU cores. PC is 2 years old now, and I don't see myself having to upgrade for another 5 YEARS probably (based on graphics shown in the ps4/xb1 previews)

The GDDR5 in the PS4 is fuckin awesome as well -- that's the type of RAM currently used on the highest-end graphics card.

Actually, the PS3 has a blu-ray player in it. When the PS4 released, singe-unit BR players were $2-300 ALONE.

Not that I think the $600 price tag was a good thing. But there ya have it. Compared to the 360s EXTERNAL HD-DVD drive (lmao) that cost $1-200 (and, of course, HDDVD is a dead tech as well)

This here is everything, in my opinion, that is horrible about Xbox One:

The console must connect to the internet once every 24 hours in order for you to play games. This is self explanatory and dumb. You can't even play single player games if it's not connected to the internet. Thanks for watching everything I do, Big Brother. Additionally, you cannot use your Xbox if the Kinect is not plugged in. Xbox will literally be watching you while you use their device. Microsoft also just patented an idea for software which would use the Kinect to determine how many persons are "using" the device and block content, or even charge extra for content, if more than the allotted persons are "consuming" their product. Shady... and horribly creepy.

The Xbox One will only allow the sale of used games at "participating retailers", but only if the publisher allows it. Truly what this means is when you buy a game for Xbox you don't actually own it. you are Licensed for the use of said game. Any game you purchase will not be your property, which is horse shit. Greedy ass publishers and Microsoft are putting this in place to make it so they are constantly milking a person's wallet to play games - even if you buy it used. Did I also mention that there are restrictions on how you can "give" and "loan" your games away. What's more, lending won't be available at launch, with Microsoft still "exploring the possibilities with our partners". You can only lend games through some asinine procedure they put in place. You won't be able to just hand someone a disc to play it, or borrow it. Again, they want your goddamn money.

I won't be buying another Xbox. I'm also pretty miffed at Microsoft about all this too.

That alone is enough for me to want to boycott the next batch of consoles. I'm a Playstation fanboy myself and have been for years...but this is too much. I hope the sales of new consoles are slow and make them rethink what they're doing, or will the next generation of kids not care and buy one regardless?

What's more, lending won't be available at launch, with Microsoft still "exploring the possibilities with our partners". You can only lend games through some asinine procedure they put in place. I'd love to hear any gamer say that these are positive changes for the industry. Dark times ahead as profit margins are so heavily protected that we'll be suffering massively as a consequence.

Just when the PC game industry looked to be dying... I'd say its our only salvation. Is it possible to buy shares in Steam? I'd look into it. Definitey not buying an Xbox, and no interest in the PS4 from what I've seen so far.

I don't want to pay to go online, what bullshit is that? The majority of console owners in the UK are Xbox owners, so naturally everyone just pays up. PS3 has been good to avoid that, its the principle of it more than anything.

A golden era has passed. I feel lucky at 32 to have enjoyed it fully :)

I completely agree. This is something the game industry has been pushing for for a long time. Its not just M$. This is what happens when EA and a couple of other distributors gobble everything up.

My last console was a PSP and that was just so I could play PS1 games. RPG and good haven't been used in the same sentence since the PS1, IMO.

as long as there's profits then they don't care. sadly, kids will berate their parents until it's bought, or buy it themselves (my 8 yr old brother knows how to buy things off of amazon or xbox store) because it's marketed that way. parents are losing horribly to advertisers and they, system and game devs, know this.

Voting with your wallet works... Look at Windows 8 :) Course, when that bombed, Microsoft decided not to take credit for a flawed product but instead blamed the critics for making the product look unappealing to consumers...

I am dedicated to PC gaming and everytime PCGamer does an E3 article that references the Xbox One they call it the Xbone. I enjoy it every time cause next it is going to turn out that the early adopters got Xboned and it will continue from there.

Also, Windows has been more user friendly for a much longer period of time than any Linux distro. Linux is stable and essentially free, which is why it is used on embedded devices, to maximize profits. When its built to do a specific job, it is very stable.

And before anyone says its more secure than Windows, of course it is, but not by design. Why would you design exploits and malware to go after 1-2% of the user base? You want to go after the big kahuna that has 80%+ of the user base.

That's incorrect. I distinctly remember Lineage 2 having gameguard problems (their cheat software). You are simply allowing your system to become as insecure as Windows if you install WINE with all the crap dll's they put down, so you might as well just run windows and not run the risk of a game blowing up in your face. You'll get some games to run better, sure, but it wasn't designed for it. Its a ticking time bomb though, one patch away from the game developer saying "oh, you're fucked since its not supported on Linux"

If your only using the console as a media center might i suggest just getting a cheap PC or Laptop to use instead of a ps4/XB1. I use to use my PS3 as media center but ended up just building a cheap dual core/2gb RAM cheap other crap PC and using that as my media center. I ditched Cable completely and just find live feeds for sports i want to watch and TPB anything i want to watch and never have to worry about streaming cutting in/out or anything. There's plenty of HD stuff out there as well. That's mainly all I grab. Mythbuntu and the other Myth distributions are a great way to get your feet wet on Linux.

Pretty much. What will happen is you'll be required to purchase more and more via download only. Why do you think both systems come with a 500GB hard drive? That's a whole lot of space for saved games, hahahaha. All of this sharing physical media enabled BS won't matter because there will be so little of it.

Maybe because having a 500GB drive is cheap as dirt..honestly should be 1TB...that's cheap too.

Xbox One -- Microsoft confirms its new console MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 24 HOURS.

After doing so you'll be allowed to game, offline, for a maximum of 24(real world, not game-time) hours.

No longer required to be on the internet, can now share games. Now the best next gen console.

How do online subscriptions compare I wonder?

Well, I personally don't care about subs for online play, as long as there are dedicated servers, and MS is the only one to announce that they are bringing up 300k, yes 300,000, more servers, for XBox Live, solely for the Xbox One.

PSN, last I heard, likes to get hacked and give away your credit card info =)

imho: if microsoft was targeted they'd be hacked in no time. psn has many more subscribers world wide which would lead to more potential numbers to sell, and them less likely to be patterned due to the globalization.

Wrong, at the time of the Sony debacle in question the number of PSN subscribers was roughly 2/3 of the number of Xbox live subscribers. Nice try though. :)

This. And XB1 has the better exclusives. Titanfall alone, imho, would warrant buying one.

Pick your poison. Does it really matter? In the end they will be pretty close to being the same. It will all come down to the specific games that you feel you HAVE to play and whether they are exclusive or not. I'm sure there will be some type of incentive if you get xbox live gold or whatever they call it these days to bring the system price more in line with the PS4.

sounds like they still gonna be watching u with the kinnect, making sure certain # of people are watching that movie...

I doubt that will ever happen. It would be so easily circumvented. I mean, seriously, just put something in front of the lens like a DVD case.

Or maybe there will be an option to turn it off in the settings? We'll know more at E3.

Why would they want to hear a bunch of twenty somethings yelling obscenities about their opponent's mother?

PSN is free, of course they will have more. But you also get what you pay for. MS adding 300k servers for XB1, Sony, nope.

The problem with your statistics is that your Sony number is total subscribers in their database, your M$ number is the gold level subscribers to Live and only the active ones at the time. Please try again. :)

"Of course, in order to do simple things like play online games and stream Netflix videos, users need to pay for a premium Xbox Live Gold membership. Ballmer did not say how many active Gold members there are."

Sorry 40 million in 2012 both silver and gold included, which unfortunately 90 mill is not 2/3rds of.
