Just installed and got this setup last night. I played EQlive from 99-2008ish on Mithaniel Marr, then Saryn, and I don't remember what the current name of the server is. I really enjoyed logging in last night and starting over and feeling that old EQ feel. I started with a ranger again, but not sure if I am going to try a different class this time around. Was different not having the maps to use.

Channels are not active correct?

Better late than never! I just started about a week or so ago, I played up through PoP and I'm glad to get the classic feel back. Welcome back to the best version of Everquest.

Welcome to the server. I would not recommend playing a ranger. Chat channels do not exist.

I love playing a ranger and it was/is my first character on the server. Very challenging though and it takes a combination of ADD and masochism to play one to sixty. Caster recommended for first character cause it isn't very gear dependent :)

Lecompte just wants more rangers so he can pull rank and make someone else eat DT

It isn't that a 55-60 ranger is the best class to eat a DT, we are just the only ones with the balls to do it. Druids, shadowknights, monks under 55, rogues under 52, shamans (do you really need more than one post buffs? Maybe if you're desperate for heals), any warrior who isn't MA or a speedbump... are all less DPS -- they just haven't got the stones.

EDIT: And I think the reason why the Ranger as DT taker thing started is sooo few rangers get up over 55 compared to a 55+ dps...
EDIT 2: I can also garuntee I'll be taking DTs on my chanter, and on my necro -- because I'd rather see shit get done then wait around for someone to figure it out. Sometimes I don't step up right off cause either: #1 my dps matters that fight or #2 I'm curious if the level 51 paladin/sk/warrior will volunteer.

Who were you on saryn? Played an ogre warrior to 60 there named Oomi. Was veeshan first then split to saryn

Gotta love it. Heck, I'm anxious for the day I get to start takin' some DTs.

As to the OP.. start whatever class you have fun with. If you want to be a Ranger again, like I did, then go for it! It's a tough road pre-Velious. Remember that you won't have panic animal, and you will have an XP penalty.

I'm always happy when I do /who all Ranger and see players moving up.
