Didn't see another post for this, so decided to make one. I have had beta for Wildstar for about a month now. The game is amazing. Yes, it's a bit cartoonish, and looks kinda like WoW, but it plays completely different. Honestly, haven't had this much fun in a game for a VERY long time.

It's combat system is stellar. Kinda like AoC, where you have to dodge things, and aim a lot of your abilities.

The housing is a lot of fun, basically like EQ2 housing, but you actually have quests and have things like dailies at your house, and can grow mats for crafting in your gardens, ect.

My favorite part of the game so far, is that by level 10, you have like 5 or more abilities to use, which makes for quite a fun gameplay while leveling up. Not the boredom of casting the same spell over and over.

Each class basically gets a job. Right now there are 4 classes, and 5 jobs. Your class is how you kill things, and what abilities you get, and your job is like, not really a tradeskill, but more like a set of quests and things to do you get on the side. Like I'm an Esper (which is a combination of a healer / chanter) and my job is a Scientist, so I get quests to go around and scan animals, and plants and stuff, and get exp for it.

The classes are awesome, because each class has two defining roles they can go. There is no, "well this class could support heal I guess." Like my class, the Esper, can go pure dps, or can go healer. It's an awesome game, and awesome setup, so if you get the chance to try it out, do it for sure!

Yeaaah...sooo... if you get any beta invites hit me up my good friend ;)

I've been keeping my eye on this game for a while now. It looks really promising! Then again a lot of games have looked promising but fallen short so I have some reluctance to get all excited for it just yet. The ideas that they are proposing in their game are pretty intersting. I'm really curious to see how they end up using the Archaeology job with how they open up passages and nooks and crannies in the world for others to use. I'm always a fan of latent community building tools like these and am hoping to see first hand how it affects the game. Here's to seeing if they follow through and it not being a one trick pony.

I was pleased with their rhetoric about wanting innovative gameplay and depth, whether that comes to fruition or not (it won't), but the art direction really bothered me. It's spastic and randumb like it was designed by and for ADHD kids while they were watching Tangled and Invader Zim while also neglecting their ritalin, resulting in design that is some bastardized hybrid between WoW and Team Fortress 2. If I have to look at that annoying fucking grinning Mechari woman again I'm going to scoop my eye out with a spoon, and I haven't even played the game yet. The personal housing plots are pseudo-instanced phased garbage, and it's going to have a dungeon finder and raid finder so it will presumably have a community roughly similar to post-BC WoW and all its clones. Expect every morpheme of quest text or any other language in the game to contain a meme or two. Every phrase is a trope.

They've invested considerable resources in telling everyone about all the things they are going to do right, but if you ignore the PR and assess the features they have on the table thus far, it doesn't seem all that impressive or innovative.

I'm also not a fan of the dual-role system. Again, it becomes a barrier to social interaction when you melt down roles like that, just to facilitate the dungeon finder paradigm.

Sorry, the art direction is a no starter for me. Visuals are not everything, but they are what first bring you to a game and I really don't think I can see past them long enough to get hooked on this game. Games like this are going after the WoW and FreeRealms crowd. Then again, I guess everyone is.

My favorite part of the game so far, is that in beta, they'll post up ideas, put them in the game, and then get feedback, and actually build the game the way the players think it should be. Which is huge, not a lot of games do that.

Also, the graphics are kinda weird right now, but they're not finalized either, they have them dumbed down right now, last client wasn't optimized at all.

From what I've read, not impressed and won't try it. If theres a free trial...still probably wont.

Just not my style and not overly appealing.

Is Wildstar like if Firefall and NeverWinter online had a baby?

You and me both citizen + many more haha. The game looks to be amazing with the communication from the dev team to the fans/press is incredibly open, you know what to expect out of the game and the product you are buying. If you enjoy theme parks wild star looks to be the next big one instead of a one month stand. With that said archeage KR is fun as hell and where I will find myself staying unless eqn is truly sandbox.

Firefall was a joke. I hated it. If anyone wants my beta account for Firefall, you can have it, for free.

Yes, the best part of Wildstar community so far, the fact that the devs literally talk to you daily, to get ideas for the game, put a lot of them to vote, and put some of them in game. They listen to our concerns, and fix them. Like a big concern was the xp curve around a couple levels was off, and you had to grind quite a bit to get through some levels. They fixed that. There are also a ton of balance issues and bugs they fix all the time. Always a hotfix going in.

Oh no!

I'm curious, and this is an honest question, does anything in this game take work or commitment? Any stratification at all? Exclusivity?

One thing I worry about, assuming the devs are actually acting meaningfully on player input, is that they will make the game easy as fuck. If you've ever read most MMO forums, complaints about difficulty and timesinks are ubiquitous. I think people underestimate the value of delayed gratification and accomplishment, though.

The character models cartoon style is a deal breaker for me.

No, they just interviewed the lead game designer yesterday, and he's awesome. He said he wants there to be something to do for every caliber of player, like legit. There is alternate experience at max level as well, and the raids that are already in and tested are awesome, and there are even some open world raids. The raid targets and open world "boss" creatures are dynamic, so they'll get stronger or weaker, depending on how many people are there fighitng them, and the rewards will change.
