I'm not sure if this is related, but I'm also unclear on what route(s) were implemented. Your post reminded me of part of the Burning Rapier quest, which suggests that after the boat "threads the needle" (goes between two huge rocks with sirens on them), you should jump overboard to find an item. The route it's referring to is the upper black line in this old-school map:
http://www.eqmacwiki.com/eqatlas/ootmap1.html
I don't remember the P99 boat ever threading that needle, so maybe they've only implemented one route which works both ways? Or, my memory might just suck. Either way.

VictoryARC, in the original setup, the boats did indeed go in the wrong direction even if they zoned to the correct zone. I remember seeing a map of ott in 1999 and folks musing at the boat situation.

Im waiting boat in EFP for over 20 min now ..
Is there only 1 boat?
Its supposed to have 2 boats on this ride. Both leave BB and FP in same time. The speed is faster then sow. That what i remimber about boats. It was not possible to go faster then them even with levitate.
If i remimber well, its supposed to have a shout in zone when it arrive.

I suggest everyone read the Project 1999 Wiki entry on the Ocean of Tears (http://moestaverne.com/p1999wiki/index.php/Zone_Ocean_of_Tears).

Travelers entering the Ocean of Tears by boat from West Freeport will briefly moor at Zachariah Reigh Isle, so named for the NPC that stands vigilant on this island's dock, before continuing eastward. A merchant can be found in the inn. Prior to landfall in Faydwer, travelers will make a final stop at the eponymous Sister Isle. Named after the divine sisterhood of Erollisi Marr worshipers that call this island home, Sister Isle's inn is renowned for selling the Kiola Nut, a key ingredient in the armors of Master Wu.
NOTE: Veteran EverQuest players are not only likely to recall two boats, but Sister Isle being the first stop out of West Freeport. Though the second boat was not added until the Kunark era, the latter recollection is entirely correct: even though Antonica lies west of Faydwer, boats departing Butcherblock mysteriously traveled east to reach Freeport--the wrong direction. Project 1999 has corrected the direction of the boat so that it travels eastward to reach Faydwer from Antonica, and vice versa; this explains why Zach Reigh isle is the first stop out of Freeport, rather than Sister Isle as most remember.
That makes absolutely no sense. This server is meant to replicate Classic, and yet, the devs "fixed" something? I thought when I took the boat from Butcherblock that something was different. Why on earth would p99 change something to be the opposite of Classic?

Are you going to complain about something so small and innocuous as THAT?
Kyosho

I don't find it small and innocuous at all. It's a bigger thing to me than the class penalty stuff that everyone is going on about. Changing how the boats go through OOT is akin to switching druids to teleporting to wizard spires, and wizards to druid rings. Sure, the game would still play similarly, but a key bit of flavor is lost.

Yeah, I liked the classic route better too. There are definitely bigger fish to fry though.

Well i was taking boat often in 1999, I always though there were 2 boats, even before Kunark ... The pathing of the boath, when leaving FP, and when leaving BB, was different for what i remimber. But i couldnt bet my life on that, my mind can be wrong too. it was 11 year ago :/

I can't be certain about the two boats thing. I always thought there was two, but I didn't know as much about the game at that point, and by the time I did, Kunark was already out. But I do recall having to wait around at the Butcherblock docks for the boat for what seemed like an eternity.
Edit: Wait, there was always two, weren't there? I have vague memories of targeting the boat and getting two different names.

Its been bugged already. A few very problematic boat issues in oot:
1) there are not two boats.
2) the circuit for the current boat is incorrect.
3) the boat itself is incorrect.
4) because of 3, the proper docking at both ports of call is incorrect.
5) mobs hit through the boat / on the boat. this was addressed relatively early on after release.

The only problem I see is that once you get enough customers the waiting list will be longer than the wait for the big boat. You need a fleet.

We use the original path of the boat from 1999, where there was only one boat and it docked at both islands on each trip. We did this because its classic, and because it was easier to implement than keeping track of two boats.
As for the boat itself not being original, thats just a limitation of the Titanium client and nothing we can do will ever fix it.

We use the original path of the boat from 1999.
But you don't. I mean, you do, but in the wrong direction (the right direct?). Is there any particular reason why you guys decided to fix the boat direction in OOT like I mentioned in my post? That's decidedly not classic. Maybe I'm the only person that really cares about this. I guess since the boat still stops at both islands, regardless of the direction, it's not as big of a deal. But it's still strange to me.

Its a known bug that the OOT was accidentally reversed by the original devs themselves. If you look at a map of norrath, freeport lies to the west and faydwer to the east. However, if you get on the boat and its traveling towards freeport, your compass will point east. Thats just the way its always been.
Sure we can reverse the path of the boat, but then people might wonder "why is sister isle coming second when it should come first?".

Cheers doa, yep it was a correction. The human island should be at the freeport side and the elves at the butcherblock side.
I guess when we add a second boat in kunark if there is a massive outcry we can swap it.
It's nice to see this thread since during our research we found this exact same topic back in 98/99 in the usenet newsgroups who were also wanting a second boat.

Bump. The wait time for one boat for the entire Ocean of Tears circle is highly ridiculous. There were definitely multiple boats back in the day (or at least a second one was added shortly after launch).
I also wish that the Ocean of Tears zone-in order hadn't been reversed. I know the zone is technically "correct" with the fix in terms of how it was supposed to be (and the original developers implemented the zone-in backwards) but in this case it's not something that benefits the game. The "backwards" way is how the game was throughout all of classic and it was actually better that way because Sister Isle was situated as being the first stop on the Freeport-to-Butcherblock pathway. Given the amount of evil characters that hang around Freeport, this made Sister Isle an excellent hunting ground for evil casters (killing the sisters drops your faction with many non-evil alignments), as those characters could get there relatively quickly and then port back to Freeport when more supplies were needed.
If OOT was going to be changed, then it should have been with how the small boats worked. They were always much too slow to be effective. Better small boats would make the whole OOT zone a more viable spot for players to go, as it actually has content for pretty much the entire level 8-50 spectrum and is just a cool place in general.

There were 2 different boats back in 1999 that's for sure. They both had different names, one of the sad quirks was always hoping to get the same one you got last time I found :D
1 boat is annoying, and the lack of porters around lately is equally so. Hard to get a port unless you're in EC ;)
