So I have been playing on and off for couple of years with the same settings (updated as needed) then yesterday and today I am getting:

Loading serverlist ...
Error while retrieving newest version.
Could not reach webserver. Trying again in 10 seconds.

and also:

Could not establish connection out of my modified shortcut.

Is this all do to the _ _ _ _ mess that has been going on the last few days or have I somehow messed up my config on 3 different pcs on the same day independently of each other?

I used to run through patchmeruneq.bat but now that shortcut says it can't find the eqgame.exe file too

Thought there was something wrong on my end. Glad to find that it's not.
Need to get my fix in tonight tho!

Just managed to bypass EQEmu by using patchMEeqRUN.bat (just couldn't run as administrator and it worked fine)

My tech-fu has failed in figuring out the bat file that you got it to work with. Thus, I must read a book. Considering it's a Sunday, it's anyone's guess if that part of the server will be worked on, much less recognized to have a problem.

You can also bypass EQemu with cmd.exe. Just navigate to your EQ directory and type:
start eqgame.exe patchme

I haven't worked in a DOS shell in years. Gimme a bit to see how this works.

GREAT SUCCESS!

Okay, I did some research and figured it out. Here's the step by step process I used for a Win XP beat up computer with the thing installed on a typical C: location.

1) click on START (bottom left of your screen), click on RUN, type "cmd.exe"
2) this will open up a black window DOS box with a starting line of your Documents and Settings\"user name" directory. If you have this, we continue...
3) Change the directory displayed from that to where your game is. For me, I used the CD command (change directory from old DOS), meaning I used this line text representing where I had the thing installed on my machine...

(my command typed was) " CD C:\program files\sony\everquest"
4) now that my directory was navigated and showing in the black box as the above listing, I typed in the command line " start eqgame.exe patchme " and the thing loaded to my account logon.

Good luck.

Edit - don't include the quotes I used above on the text lines.
