Was looking around for an interesting MMO. Is GW 2 just another WoW clone? Is there anything redeemable about it? Some people really sing praises, although I'm not sure why just yet.

Its aite. Fun for a minute. Not "just another wow clone" but it is "just another modern MMO"

It's fairly mediocre.
The worst is only being able to have a small handful of active/passive abilities selected at once. You can rotate them in/out, but not in combat.

Is the combat twitch or static like EQ / WoW? Sort of looking for maybe a twitch / Diablo style or else it'll just feel like yet another of the same old same old.

Path Of Exile then. It's what Diablo 3 should have been.

Played for a little last fall, think I was a hunter (ranger?) can't remember particularly, but was kinda cool cz abilities changes with weps with that class, I guess I'd best put it like this:
Pros: seemed versatile at times, for ex. world events where a farmer's crops would get raided and enough of a player base on hand at any point to do these events, wow-like but they added a feature where you could roll with two strikes of a direction key in any direction lol, when walking through the world you would scale to the level of the zone a lot of the time (ex. lvl 19 would turn 80 in a lvl 80 zone)
Cons: (in my opinion) wow-like at times(not that wow was bad(maybe), just played a lot of mmos like it), able to break max level in a week or two solo if online alot (cap was 80 at the time), seemed a bit easy tbh but never did the raid scene/much of the high end so can't really speak on the behalf of end game :p

Played both now. Path of Exile is quite good if you're into clicky combat. I'm enjoying guild wars 2 as well. Plenty to do. Free and the no group, open world thing is nice for casual gaming. I like the aspect of joining a massive train of other players to beat on champion bosses across a zone. The leveling is probably the fastest I've seen in a mmo lately though. Played about a week and a half and am at 40 already, and I'm a VERY casual gamer. Good, easy, momentary fun, both of them. :)

Here's my note.
This game is fucking gay.

Game was shit when it came out, and since nobody is talking about it, streaming it, competing in it, or otherwise give a flying fuck about that piece of shit ultra-casual wannabe-MMORPG, my guess is it's still exactly that.

I view GW2 as a alternative MM-Diablo3, since D3 failed miserably, this is the best alternative.
Soloing is very casual, but I must say that their group dungeon instances can be a nightmare to
complete since there is no dedicated healer classes, so you can't tank and spank anything, mobs AI is pretty good and agro jumps all over a group - if everyone not paying attention 100% of the time - you will wipe quickly
their PvP is good. Group vs Group PvP instances remind me of Unreal Tournament Onslaught missions, and realm vs realm includes massive battles and castle sieges
