A Canticle for Leibowitz remains the best dystopic which is the only genre I read (rarely but a decent number over the years)
But to stay on topic of the troll thread, 9/11 Synthetic Terror: Made in USA by Webster Griffin Tarpley was a pretty big eye opener

My favorite reading material is the McDonald's nutrition sheet as I spray tar-like shit all over my toilet. It then hardens and becomes nearly indestructible much like Wolverine's adamantite skeleton. Except it isn't a skeleton. It's a shitty McRib.

Not sure if I can comment on the BEST novel of ALL TIME, but a few of the ones that evoked the strongest feelings in me (enough that I can think of only these off the top of my head, and I haven't read any of them in 10+ years) were quo vadis, the once and future king, watership down, and enders game.
"They did not forgive us. We will surely die."
Rabbits!
Ector first kneeling before Arthur.
The whole fucking book of Quo Vadis.
Phew.

It's a real shame Orson is such a douche in real life, I would really like to keep Ender up on my list. The topper for me though has always been The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. Love me some Philip K Dick.

Personal faves in the past couple years: The Dark Tower series/Wind Up Bird Chronicle (Gunslinger probably being my favorite of all the DT series, still haven't gotten around the comics or Wind Through the Keyhole)

And there are so many more! It's wonderful when a piece of literature changes you. I haven't read either since jr. high, but I liked Brave New World a lot more than 1984.

Normally I hate philosophical texts, and this is just a small portion of Kierkegaard's (boring) Either/Or masterpiece, but the language is so romantic and beautiful that it will have you tearing up. It reads like diary entries written by a sociopath obsessed with utterly destroying a woman by making her fall in love with him.

Personally I find 1984 to be a better piece of literature than A Brave New World, but the latter has an arguably more relevant vision of the future and also tends to be easier for readers to connect with its characters. I recommend re-reading either if you haven't since you were in your teens. I find them much better than when I was forced to read them.

Speaking of middle school books, I never realized that The Giver was just book one of a larger series. Apparently I need to re-read and carry on.

1984, hands down, best novel of all time.
Closely followed by:
On The Road, The Disposessed, The Lorax, The Handmaid's Tale, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, Flowers For Algernon, The Sheep Look Up, Fight Club, and most especially apt for this audience: Player Piano.

Almost all these are on my fav list. Dune and Ender series being near the top.
Additions:
The Princess Bride
A song of fire and ice (read it multiple times well before the show)
Sword of truth series
All 21+ books in the Krondor series by feist
Mistborn Trilogy
The Way of kings
(In the spirit of this troll thread)
Fun fact, many of my favorite authors are Mormans...do you think they excell at fantasy because their own religion is straight out of one of their books?

One of the single most ignorant things ever written on the Net.
Twilight > 1984? Astounding!
I really hope this is a case of my sarcasm detector malfunctioning.
Anyway: The Lord of the Rings would be mine.
Followed in no particular order by:
