Any of you do this?
This is my first real attempt at turning a grown stick into something nice.

I plan on filling the large check on the back of the head, which I've been told should not get any bigger. This is peach wood finished in 600 grit and Emmet's Good Stuff.

Dude, you've got wood...

But really, looks cool. Don't do it myself but I notice people in the hills here in Colorado always have these homemade/handmade walking sticks. Some seem pretty legit.

This one is very heavy, with a burl at the tip making it probably the hardest part of the whole stick, and can be 2 hand swung like an axe very nicely, so even if you don't have any stickfighting skill, it's a beast of a weapon.

how many hours has that taken? nice job. there's a shop at the renfaire that sells nice walking sticks every year. consider joining their circuit if you like gypsies.

far too many hours to try and make money doing it. Unless you know someone in the market for a $500 walking stick. :P

I've made a few walking sticks but I didn't put much time into them. My first was a dead oak branch I cut off, sanded a little and put some wood stain on it. Maybe an hour of total time in that one.

Made one out of cedar and I've made two out of hedge (or osage orange but everyone I've ever known has called them hedge trees).

Yours' looks nice but isn't peach a very weak wood?

Quite to the contrary, many species of Prunus (the stone fruits, mainly) have some of the hardest, toughest, heaviest, and most impact resistant wood in the world - in fact Blackthorn, the preferred stock for making traditional shillelaghs is Prunus spinosa aka Sloe. Many fruit trees (deciduous, fruit bearing "hardwood") have these qualities. For instance, Persimmon is perhaps the hardest wood native to north america. Exceptions exist obviously (hickory, some kinds of maple, black locust, hawthorne, etc), but stone fruit wood is an extremely good type of wood from which to choose weapon stocks.

Funny, coz with the advance of the internet, I've been able to reach out to a group of the best stickmakers in the world, and they love it.

You think I give any fucks about what some dumbfuck noname red scum thinks ?

Jupiter
The smaller, spunkier cousin of the above walking stick. Jupiter is a cudgel style shillelagh of the same peach I used before. This was also off a branch which was dead on the tree for several years, so while dry, neither were cured properly.

first ones lacquered n long, nice bark handle, just needs jewels to be a real nice pimp cane. second one seems short n thick (could be the perspective) more suited as a weapon than a walking aid

we use to polish our stix all day when I was in scouts
