So I'm thinking about getting a puppy but I'm not sure what sort of pup I want.. It's a tossup between these 3, it will be a male and his nuts will stay on. testosterone improves personality

Don't be a cunt and adopt.

The rest is up to you. I'd go for the Blue Blood Basset myself.

Bloodhounds get pretty big.

Hope you're living in a house with a nice backyard and not an apartment that has jizz stains on the walls from the previous tenant.

Go to the local animal shelter, spca etc...
Find a friendly dog that loves you and rescue it.
Saves you money and helps everyone.

Truth. Also very annoying if you constantly have wildlife around of your home such as rabbits.

I'm a fan of bloodhounds.

I would avoid beagles as well.

Get a Flat-Coated Retriever and have an awesome/ somewhat rare breed of a dog that will love you forever. And also, listen to Bob Barker and spay/ neuter your damn pet.

Intact males mark everywhere all the time, so when house training em you need 2 or 3 weeks where you can watch em every second of the day to catch em and even then, they still gonna piss in your house.

I have plenty of land. I think I've narrowed it down to bloodhound or basset hound, I've kind of been leaning a little more toward a bloodhound so I can train it to tree coons and squirrels. me and my hunting partners have been wanting a dog with a good sniffer and i know they are great trackers

All dogs are like taking care of a little kid. If you're not up for that task, you shouldn't have one.

My beagle wasn't annoying at all. She was playful, affectionate, eternally hungry, and she didn't take crap from bigger dogs.

Saves you money

My middle sister adopted from a rescue. It was cocker spaniel found wandering the streets and rescued. Probably a breeder reject. Had two different colored eyes. She had him examined by a vet immediately after adoption. The vet did worn of future blindness. The blue colored eye had a cataract. That was 3 years ago. He just had one of his eyes removed last week. It is very possible whatever was wrong with the blue eye will affect the brown eye and he will lose the other. This is after 6 months ago when the dog became mysteriously paralyzed in his hind legs. Took him to the vet and he had an undiagnosed spinal injury that required $2K laser treatments. She guesses he was hit by a car while wandering the streets as a puppy. He can walk now, but is still a disabled dog.

My oldest sister adopted a rescue dachshund. Had heart worm. The treatment was very expensive. The dog seems healthy now, but heart worm can cause permanent damage. This dog also must have been paper trained and even after 5 years of diligent attempts to outdoor potty train, still goes in the house frequently.

My sisters love their dogs, but it has been at a financial cost.

I have a 5 year old non-allergenic dog (maltese/poodle/bichon frise). She wasn't a rescue. I bought her from a reputable breeder. First small dog I've ever had. Apparently small dogs frequently have bad teeth. Vet says she needs her teeth cleaned or she will lose them. $250. minimum. Small dogs also frequently have a collapsed trachea. She has that too. It is scary when it collapses and she gasps for breath, usually when she gets excited.

Dog are not cheap. Dogs tie you down when you want to leave town, even for a day or two. They are great companions, but you really need to understand the commitment.

For the love of god do not get a Bassett Hound. They are almost all horribly smelly (even by dog standards due to glandular issues with the breed) and insanely hard to train. Once they are outside thier brain turns off and thier nose takes over. If you're looking for a pet to enjoy outside then the Bloodhound will be your best bet from the list you posted.

I just got a Beagle pup and she has been good so far. Like all puppies, they will get into trouble and chew etc. I crate train her and she has been doing well evacuating outside, although she goes inside sometimes because I am not paying attention.

The males will be crazy and howl etc, females are more docile. Once outside the nose goes to work. I have a fenced in yard and let her run while under mime or the wife's supervision. She gets along well with our 3 1/2 year old daughter too. When I take her out to do her business I let her go and bring her inside immediately. If she just hangs around the yard and dinks around, I bring her inside.

She is used to her crate and she will immediately go in when I pull out a milkbone.

As with any puppy, they will be nuts the first few months.

Also on adopting, I filled out 5 applications and nobody got back to me. Plus they want $400 just to adopt. I got mine from a breeder for $500 with papers. I also do not feel comfortable having people come to my house and want to know where I work and my bosses name, AND want references.

Problem is they never leave that stage. They have all the worst puppy traits for life.

Friend had a bull mastiff. I don't know much about dogs but this thing was the most personable and intelligent little guy. He'd play along with jokes and he took beatings of a life time from his owner without ever batting an eyelash.

If I ever get a dog, there's no question what breed it will be

I don't particularly like beagles, but if you like hunting birds they make incredible bird-dogs

I have a border collie and I hate this fucker. He is smart enough to get out of the backyard constantly. The worst trait of my wife when we got married was this collie.....but hes kinda cool sometimes...and thats how they getcha.

And that great personable dog will die in 7 years. Same with the Danes. I would love to have a mastiff but I can't deal with a best friend dying every 7 years. Big dogs lifespans are just too short. It's rough enough with our ferrets.

Best family dog I've ever owned is a little black bitch pug.

I'll agree w/ Arrisard on "The Catahoula Leopard". Awesome hunter breed! We use those on a pig hunts down here in TX and they are simply amazing.

I read they calm down after a while. You just have to always have em on a leash unless they are fenced in. The females anyway...the males I heard are nuts.

There was that, with mine, as well. When she was a few months old, she ate the bathroom door (a good 3-4 cubic inches of it). I'm not joking. But after she grew up, she was perfect.

Problem is they never leave that stage. They have all the worst puppy traits for life.
Mine must have been broken. After the normal puppy stage, she was lazy, unless there was food or a squirrel around (squirrel=food). She was the runt, and although both parents were definitely Beagles, she looked more like a mini Basset.
