I know that pretty much everyone hates grind, but it needs to be done. I was wondering who here hates grind more or their job more?

Me personally I despise grind and wish I had all my level 50 chars from my original eq account. My RL job is a photographer and can get boring at times with editing thousands of pics at a time, but grind feels even more brainless.

Being unemployed atm and grinding daily or just sitting playing with my kids. I do miss having a job, it gave me somthing to do for at least 8 hours a day. Getting to hang with my kids and EQ grind when I got home was like my reward for a days work.

So Id say atm I hate the grind more.

^^ My Thoughts EXACTLY ^^

The only plus of being unemployed is that I want to get back into school full time so I've been able to be in class more than a couple nights a week. But coping with not having a job is a bitch, all the special stuff you looked forward to loses a bit of it's shine.

Hmm, in answering your question I realize that I really don't make any sense. I hate the grind of the typical office job, the sight of cubicles makes me want to vomit and it just seems like cruel and unusual punishment. I'm not really a big fan of routine in general.

However — and this is where the "not making any sense" comes in — I actually like the grinding and timesink aspects of EQ. I can't explain it. It is what it is.

I am proably the acception.
I love my job I would rather be doing it than grinding. But then the more I do
the more I make. And with a wife and 3 kids I need to make lots and lots and lots of cash!

I am in the same boat you are. When I grind for cash in game I could be grinding for cash in RL.

Uhh, I must admit.. I don't mind it either.

Twisted... I know.

Omg, please don't call work "grinding for cash."

That's just blending my EQ world and my real world way too much for comfort.

Besides, these days, it's more like "grinding for health insurance". ;)

Oddly I don't think I've ever minded the EQ grind. If I'm solo EQ PvE is by far much more difficult that any other MMORPG and is excellant XP. If I'm grouped (I usually always play a class that is wanted for grouping) I sit and chat with everyone else in group or I hang on vent with my MMORPG guild (who are playing all sorts of games atm) and just chat with them.

I'm usually never bored at all in EQ.

I'm suddenly seeing a lot of parallels between EQ and real life.

Some people race to get to the top, complete tunnel vision, never stopping to smell the roses. Even when they've amassed everything they could possibly want, many are left with an inexplicable, hollow sense of dissatisfaction.

Some take shortcuts to get to the top, and while it's fun to show off their prizes for a short time, they soon realize they've robbed themselves of any sense of achievement.

Then there are those who lament the grind but they do it anyway. They place more importance on personal connections than shiny, transient items. When the inevitable end is reached and right before everything goes dark, these are the folks who are most likely to look back on their experiences with a contented smile.

I like grinding and I like my job. It's both about sitting on desk and pushing the mouse. Even EQ can be more stressful sometimes.

Sounds like what prostitutes do on a daily basis...grind for cash...

Being a paramedic i LOVE my work. But even better then that is the fact that while i work a 72 hour shift, my down time is my own. Which means i grind while i work at doing what i love!

It's a loaded a question. You assume people hate grind.

Then I must ask you, why does everyone grind then? They grind in RL for riches and fame. They grind in games for wealth and status. My dad used to pridefully tell me how he would work 70 hour weeks at the cannery, doing the same thing all day. He boasted he could move fish faster than anyone else.

So don't tell me grinding is something new or people hate it. They love it. If they didn't, there wouldn't be so much of it everywhere. It's everywhere. I think people like it because it's predictable.

Just look at school. Most of school is learning about things you don't want to learn about. If that's not a grind, wth is. Sit down with a book, grind the pages and write down the answers. And work. It's the same thing for 30 years of your life or more. Day in and day out. If everyone does their part well, it's like watching the same movie over and over again. Accidents and disasters do add some spontaneity to it.

There's a reason games have so much grinding. If you're puzzling over it, still struggling with trying to figure it out, then welcome to the funny farm. Get your head looked at. Grinding is life.

same

I enjoy my job more than grinding. However, for example from Monday night @ ~8pm est til ~4pm est Tuesday I was doing HHK Guards with the wife.. and seriously -

i felt like a piece of shit playing EQ for almost 24 hrs straight like im 12 again. At least with work i feel good and accomplished.

granted we work from home making all your money "real" :P

Well maybe I am a minority but my solution to grinding has always been to just avoid it... If it isn't fun and feels like grinding, then I don't do it. Out of the ~20 characters I played in EQ, only 2 have made it up past 50. Otherwise, if I get too bored I just start something new.

But anyway, I would definitely say I enjoy work more than grinding. Digital art is my occupation, so if I'm sitting on the computer all day anwyay i'd rather be creating some cool crap instead of bashing endlessly for a couple blue bubbles.

However I do have a lot of downtime at work, during rendering and such, so I could probably do both at the same time. I just don't have the balls to actually fire it up at work. The office is set up in a way that our monitors are plainly visible to everybody!

Same position as you literally, photographer - hehe. I hate the grind and refuse to do it, even if it means I will never have a high level character on the actual server - I'd rather work and learn/get paid, exercise, sleep - etc.

I wish I had the time to grind. With my job and the hours being all over the map I just can't commit to a grind in EQ. I also miss the fact that I cannot camp for the nice items that I really want.

All in all though I am just having a blast being able to play EQ again. Maybe things will be different for me in the near future and this will change.

It was easier in HS when you could skip homework and grind instead and there was that element of surprise on what it feels like to be level 50. Now when I grind I feel like I should be working or spending time with my wife. I also know what to expect, what mobs to camp and grind, what fear/hate really look like, etc. I guess some people can really get into it again, but part of me feels like I won't get that feeling like back in the day. Kind of like when you go to an 80's club, it doesnt fully feel like that club you went to in the 80's.

You mean there are people who play this game that have jobs?
