Seriously everytime I actually turn the radio on I want to shoot myself :(
I was YouTubing earlier and ran into some DMX videos. man i havent listen to him in awhile. Seems like passion has left the hip hop scene, I mean you can actually feel these songs unlike todays songs. Guess its another year of ipod, fuck radio.

i can't hate on drake because he never claimed to be true hip hop....he's a new age artist who specializes in harmony/vocals/rap in that particular order. i enjoy his music for what it is because it's not HIP HOP, it's a new genre of Soap-Opera Rap.

Anything by wu-tang, pretty much, although recently their albums have had fewer hits on them to be quite honest. And I'm a die hard wu-fan.
Some of their gems:
Pass the bone - GZA, Solo Album
Babies - Clan, off Iron Flag
9 Mili Bros - Clan, off GFK SoloAlbum Fishscale, likely the last great Wu-tang track featuring all the original members, as it has cuts from ODB who's now dead.
Triumph - Clan, Wu-tang forever, not a hidden gem by any means, but was a landmark track when it dropped and needs to be mentioned in every 'great hiphop' songs list.
Nas - Pretty much the entire illmatic CD. Other cds had some big hits and misses but illmatic was a sublime experience the whole way through.
Memory lane - illmatic - best track on the album, imo
Take it in blood - it was written (album), classic track
The message - it was written (album)
Ether - Stillmatic? (cant remember for sure it was on that album or not) Best "beef" track ever recorded, It's basically 5 minutes of Nas taking the song Jay-Z wrote to try and bash him, ripping it apart completely and then putting it *back together* to tear Jay-Z a new whole to breath from somewhere in his pelvic region.
Mobb Deep - damn these guys were good back in the day. I haven't listened to them recently, but I had heard they went 'hip-pop', which is unfortunate because they were a big part of the 'underground' queens bridge rap movement. Can't think of any favorites that diplo didnt' already mention
T.I. - I generally don't like south rap at all, as artists from down there generally come out with 'pop-y' tracks that can sound good on the ears, but have little real substance in their lyrics. Mike jones is a fantastic example of this. But T.I. has real talent, his lyrics are usually pretty deep and full of meaning, and I really enjoy most of his tracks. Don't form your opinion of him based off his singles, because there is a lot more there.
Motivation - T.I., Urban Legend
Told you so - T.I., King
T.I. vs T.I.P. - T.I., T.I. Vs T.I.P.
Bankhead - T.I., King
Lots of others by T.I., he's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. There's a reason why they call him the King of the South, despite Lil' Wayne attempting to claim that title/thinking it was his. There's only one king in the south, wayne, and you aren't it.
Tons of other artists to look at, like jedi mind trick, or deltron. Some of these guys are still making great albums even in this decade and the last one, so don't give up hope. Hip hop is still very much alive.

I grew up listening to Wu-tang. they changed the game especially for the east coast. Their west coast affiliates: Killa Beez were also pretty good. One of my favorite Killa Beez tracks was "The Cook Out" and "Never Again" (never again was by this white dude from killa beez talkin about the holocaust. song is srs).
Classic mobb deep well...is classic. Once they more or less split and cooled off from the game, by the time they tried coming back, it wasn't the same. that was the moment when they signed their souls over for money and signed to 50 cent's label. they made a few decent club joints (50's MO), but they were never the same.
If you guys like deathcore underground rap, Necro and Immortal Technique are very respected in the underground community.
My favorite rap duo are: Binary Star. The two artists are Senim Silla (my blue character) and OneBeLo. they are the definition of hip hop with flow, lyrical content and whit. Listen to their album: MAsters of the Universe and you won't be disappointed.

Sorry but they're all like the guys I used to lock up. Every single one of them fancied himself a rapper, and they all look like that, seriously. I just can't get into most of it. Some of the messages might be positive, I don't know, but even "positive" rap often glorifies gangs and shit. There's gang symbolism all over.
Put the final nail in the coffin, have One Direction cover "white lines" or something...
Do you mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRw8cBratM4? If so you really went old school. I do like that old stuff.

One of my fav songs for sure. I could play that every day and not get tired of it.
I dunno, some new rap, hip hop is fun. Lil' B is good, I like Kendrick whenever I hear it on radio even though its super pop rap.

i wouldnt personally consider dmx "hip hop" in my own opinion. I think Nas and Jay z are kind of all thats around, not including talib, or KRS 1

Hip Hop has been dead for a while now. Personally I do not like Rap/Hip Hop, at all. But in the 90's I could respect some of it, and even liked some, like A Tribe Called Quest. Now adays Rap is part of the unholy trinity of talentless dogshit that is mass produced for $$$$$$ (the other two being Country and Pop).

Ok maybe not quite 90s but close enough... This is the best video and quite possibly the best hip hop album to come out of the era.

Dr. Dre - Still D.R.E
Yeah it's not underground and its mainstream, but its from an era when mainstream was pretty damn good.
