Is there any interest in Guild-on-Guild PVP on this server? One of my fondest memories from Ultima Online was guild wars, where players in opposing guilds could attack you at any time and vice versa, with no repercussions from town guards. I was thinking about how fun that might be on this server.
Say, if two guilds decided to "war" with each other -- say, for a week or even for a day -- players in the opposing guild would show red name tags to you and could be attacked at any time (excepting perhaps the planes, or previously-specified locations and situations).
Any thoughts?

There was a /guildwar function on live, and it's unfortunately broken here.

I'm pretty sure guild war is classic. We definitely did it a few times in the classic period but I was on a pvp server so I am not sure if it worked different on blue servers.
on rallos zek it removed all level restrictions if you did a guildwar.
I'm guessing (keyword guessing) the reason it isn't implemented here is one of developer time limitations / lack of priority vs other things.

See video above...
I was (and currently interested) looking to do something like this with a couple guilds. They ended up not having enough to participate.
Pm me if you have a guild interested.

It is a 16 on 16 guild PVP fight where you escort guild whores holding copper to a drop location while destroying another guild or hindering them from making progress.

Ahhhh guildwar - brings back so many memories in UO.
I was there when the Grudge Bearers and Heavy Foot fought bravely against those evil Skorcherz

bump, found this one while looking for an older thread on different issue
I know I'm not the only one that thinks /guildwar could provide another classic option to resolve (or further) things such as raid qualms, while I assume blue is pretty anti pvp (otherwise it'd be red) the option to at least declare something like this would have to be settled upon by both leading parties of both guilds, and would be pretty awesome in terms of giving a new *old* dynamic to a classic server. The code for it on emu exists in some form in the archive of eqemu's forums, just not sure if there's enough of a want for guildwar to be implemented by the players and/or staff.

My guild Silens Dauthus on Mithaniel Marr did a /guildwar at one point. If I remember right, the /guildwar command also had parameters that would set the duration in days, at which time it would automatically end.
Silens Dauthus was an all rogue guild, and the guild we "warred" with was a druid/ranger guild. I think only one or two people from each guild actually managed to pvp during the guildwar, as our guild was mostly centralized in the Butcherblock area at the time, and they were all in/near Misty Thicket so it was pretty much pointless. I know that I never saw a member of the other guild during the "war." This was either pre-Kunark or shortly after the release, definitely pre-Velious though.
Some friends of mine participated in a player ran event on another server (I think Tarew Marr) that was based on a guild war. Two guilds were created specifically for the event, with names like "Army of the East" and "Army of the West" or something similar. Players were allowed to level up to 10, and the people running the event gave players spell money and some leather/banded armor and stuff. Everyone from both guilds then went to Tox forest and the guilds went to "war."
I wasn't there for the event, but it sounded like a cool idea and my one friend made out with some pretty cool items from participating, enough so that he switched to that server permanently and eventually was able to trade his way up to some top end items like AoN and Fungi despite never making it past level 35 or so.

Blues confuse me, You could of done this the entire time on RED! just wait for teams and it be pretty much the same.

I can already imagine all the exploits here. Out of guild healers and trainers. Someone deguilding to avoid a death or someone deguilding, walk up to an opposing raid, then get reinvited and drop a couple rain spells on their raid. And I'm sure most of you guys are even more creative than that.
But yeah, the idea sounds fun.

lol true, there'd have to be some finer points (ex. guild join/leave cooldowns) considered in making it function as a less-exploitable mechanic

Sometimes I like going out drinking with my friends, other times I would rather just stay home and relax. PvP in EQ is the same way. Blue gives me the option to PvP when I want to, red does not.
That being said, if red really wanted more competition, players and to show that it really is the more fun server, they should be on board with blues copying a character over. I've never logged on red because I have no desire to level more characters, but if I could have a copy of my bard there to log on and mess around, I'd probably do it quite a bit.
