Hello,

Instead of criticizing the decision of the server-gods to strictly stick to the 1999 formula, i'll just tip my hat to those who went trough the terrible first few levels without even a decent population to sustain low level grouping.

I just couldn't ! This is what 10 more years did to my patience regarding the grinding...

It took you 2 years to make level 2 and quit?

What are you trying to play (and how were you doing it?) that it is so ridiculously terrible that you can't make more than 1 level?

I mean. I guess if you're a naked level 2 iksar/troll shadowknight and you're killing level 1s to xp in a 75 ZEM zone, you'd need like 150 kills to get through 2. But that's a terrible grind because you're doing a bunch of things wrong, not just because classic EQ is "hard" or because you are impatient. Don't play a SK for your first p99 character. Don't fight in a shitty zone. Don't kill level 1s (2s are worth 4x as much xp without being even twice as tough). Get help from higher players. Etc.

If you can't bother to do any of that, then yeah, bye; there are other MMOs out there for you.

The day the server opened there were 90ish people on I think and I still had a blast 1 - 10. I'd say 1000 people at primetime is pretty "decent"!

This has become the thinking of most gamers these days thanks to those games which I will not mention here. People tend to forget that you actually have to be social with people in order to find a group.....

Grouping at level 2.

Tee hee.

I agree quite hilarious, but not impossible to find.

The bottom line is people have grown up in some imaginary world where they believe everything should be catered to them, and if they don't get their way they will try to prevent NEW people from coming by spreading slander about this great server.

The lower level population does suffer because with Kunark the 50+ lvl are such a terrible grind a majority of the population is up there I think. But quiting at lvl 2, at least you got out while you still could.

The fuck? I'm a huuge slacker and practically exclusively solo and the first 5 levels (at least) were a blur. 6 months to level 20 is within my definition of fun.

And I tend to play race/class combos with exp penalties (eg, current main is iksar).

I'm not sure where all this agressivity is coming from (especially from "social" players), but i'll take some advice into consideration (like avoiding melee classes for a first char).

Well it's down now, but there is a wiki that has a wealth of information. It's very helpful to 1st time players and even returning people who have been gone a good long time. There is a link here some where that will at least get some of the pertinent first few pages. Certain classes have xp penalties, and most races do as well. It is a hard game compared to a lot of games that seem to give you everything right out of the box, not impossible :) I think that is what people kinda jumped on ya for.

Two years and 1 level I don't think they jumped on him about not using the wiki. You can start any class and get to level 3 in a few hours brand new and never playing any mmo.

Didn't say that.. sounded like a bit of complaining. Would think that is what people were getting on him about.

Leveling is hard? Can get to 51 in couple days played if you make friends with the right people :)

On live in 1999, no one grouped at level 2. Maybe some did, but it was pointless.

I think the first time I ever grouped I was level 5 or 6 and that was with guild sword and the 1 or 2 pieces of leather I could afford by then.

Seriously, rats and skellies till 3, then fire beetles. Every class can do that till 4.

BTW, saw a group at derv 3 in NRo just last night and a group at crocks in Oasis, so people are grouping at the levels required to progress.

Sounds to me like you just don't like EQ.

Irony is that the newbie zones (and lowbie pre-30 dungeons) are more filled now than they were when I rolled my first toon a few weeks after server launch. The population of this server has been reinvigorated...new players coming on board all the time, very healthy population at all levels imo.

Hey Talwen, long time to see bud :)

Before this week, I hadn't played in in 2.5 yrs and this week spent the time finishing all my 1/2 done Lambent quests. Each piece I completed I promptly sold my old bronze very easily to some lowb wearing ghetto gear fighting in a lowb zone paying with plat and gold.

I don't see what the OP's issue was. Sure, you're not going to find a bunch of people in Feerot and Tox, but you never did...

Each newbie zone has camps you can get a few people together for. Nektulos Forest, outside of Neriak, has the wizard spires, which has undead mobs, and also across the river is an obelisk that with undead spawns. Wouldn't want to do either of those at level 2 rofl.

But starting around, what, lvl 5? Sure, you can pull together a small grp to tackle stuff I am fairly sure in every newbie zone.

I do not think you are serious. Or, you never realized, the game is actually dangerous and you WILL die if you wander too far into the zone at level 1. And you will die fast.

But I do not think the OP is serious. I call shenanigans.
