View Full Version : Rogean, I'm curious as to your thoughts on removing variance?

I'm not sure we the server have received an official thought (not to be confused with what's actually going to be executed) on simulated patch days? I understand you'd like to be hands off as much as possible...and Nilbog has expressed positive feelings towards the idea.

The reason why I'm asking is because, the moral of all the threads on why the raid scene sucks is that to shut people up, either they need instances or are over-entitled to content without putting work in, etc...blah blah blah same old shit. Either way any of those options leaves one of the two polarized communities pissed off.

I also understand that you and your staff would like to remain hands off of too much manual labor. I get it, I'd be the same way. It has nothing to do with laziness, it's really about minimizing human hands on the server.

But what are your thoughts? At the end of the day, we the community don't deserve or are entitled to anything...yes I include financial patrons as well. We the community would like to hear your thoughts outside of "zomg grow the fuck up and work shit out yourselves"

One thing that allowed for multiple uber guilds to exist on high population servers was patch days where everything repopped instantaneously forcing guilds to focus on content they could. What about the "zomg TMO will just split their forces". Let's be honest here guys, a house divided cannot stand. Even TMO with the skill/zerg/whatever you call it...they cannot spread their forces THAT evenly with the same amount of effectiveness. They might be able to get the hardest of encounters and perhaps some of the easier less than 20 people needed encounters.

But anyways i digress...help us Rogean-wan-kenobi...you're our only hope!

Thought it might be relevant to link for those that wanted to see some hashed out thoughts or how people have voted prior to another conversation starting here.

Rogean, i don't mean to try to call you out as that's not my intentions...more of if it is in your intention to do simulated patchdays, we'd love to provide some input that you choose to or choose not to implement...we'd love to help you do it with as little manual involvement on your part.

And I know for myself, I don't know the mechanics of how the code works, but there's gotta be some way to make it work so it doesn't stress you out...

We KNOW how they feel about it. That is why it is the way it is. Duh.

i refuse to believe that absence of opinion assumes they're for one way or another. That's how children view the world.

I'm more poised to believe that due to the coding involved, it may not be either automateable, or potentially fucks up other code fucking up the server, or he's too busy watching lightsabre fling across the room (jk brogean).

spend some time at Dirty Dodd's lately?

I'm kind of confused about this thread. Isn't this post (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1072657&postcount=9) indication enough of what's going on?

it's indicative that nilbog has warm fuzzies about the idea...but rogean has the final say. We would like to know if Rogean has come up with that final say yet or at least his constructive criticisms/support for the idea straight from him.

Heck...even Nilbog's "how did zone XXXX work?" are awesome for community morale...even though it has nothing to do with a concrete release date or anything, but it gives us hope.

well, removing variance and patch day resets are kinda two different things.

I think Rogean supports the latter, just not the former.

I hope Rogean doesn't respond with this, because people like spoils shouldn't be able to make a thread and scream 'ROGEAN! ROGEAN! I NEED ACCESS TO YOUR THOUGHTS! BUMP BUMP BUMP! ROGEAN!!'. Some of us see that as disrespectful of the staff's time. The devs have discussed this issue already at length, so this thread seems pointless except to annoy the staff.

I'm confused. Why are we wanting to remove variance again? Have peoples socks all been washed and are ready for 24/7 usage once again?

When people say they want variance removed, Yinik, they don't mean they want variance removed AND they want a return to "if your raid force is on the spawn point, then the mob is yours." No variance + FTE at least would be making "raiding" a FTE crapshoot, which benefits non-TMO guilds in terms of pixels even if it isn't much fun.

A lot of people would like to see reduced variance though, so that there still isn't a lot of socking going on while people wait for FTE, but there also isn't this 100+ hour per week per mob of tracking needed.

Agree with this. Every day someone posts a thread demanding the devs thoughts on potential changes they want implemented.

When nilbog wants advice, he asks for it.
