View Full Version : Has a subscription option ever been discussed?

Hi all,
My wife and I have just recently applied to have our IP Exempt as we would love to get back into the game that holds so many memories for us from 1999-2005. We actually met playing EQ in 2002 and have been married ever since.
I am quite aware that you guys do this for free and run on donations but I was wondering is there anyway that you would ever set up an optional subscription system for those that would like to pay a regular fee to help keep the server going? I mean we would easily pay a usual $15 or so monthly fee to help out, I know it isn't much but I am sure any little bit would help?
Please don't see this as me demanding a mandatory subscription its just an option for those of us that love the game and want to help keep it running on a regular basis.
Ideas or thoughts would be welcome :)

That would be illegal.

theres a donate button on the homepage if u want to donate to help us pay the bills, but we do not charge for anything. P99 is and will always 100% free :)

Maybe I just have no faith, but this seems like an attempt to get an IP exemption looked at.

Borador its a shame people like you bring the forums down, responses like that belong in wow forums. I'm 40 years old if i want things done i ask for them directly, maybe thats not the way you work but I do. I was simply posing a question as I realise things aren't cheap and I dont expect things for free.
Totally uncalled for.

As Sirken said, if you wish to contribute to the project and keeping it alive, that is what the donation link is for. Unfortunately, if the staff were to set up a subscription or profit from the server, then it would definitely open a legal can of worms for them and the server. Donating is definitely the way to go.

Totally uncalled for.People like me? Sorry if I offended you. I'm simply saying that in my short time here I have seen talk of made up stories for IP exemptions so you can two box. I found it odd that you would have a back story bringing up an exemption with your wife, meeting in eq, then stating you want to pay a subscription fee, which I think most know Sony would be upset about. Not to mention the apparent donate button/links which allow you to support p99. All in all it just seemed strange.

I'll assume that everyone (including new players) know that there's no preferential treatment for donating, and that the OP just wants to contribute to something awesome which is Project 1999.
Excuse the trolls ravenshade, plenty on the forums... but they generally behave in game :)
You can of course put in for an IP exemption, but the golden rule is if one of you is AFK to put the AFK tag up and leave the computer alone, don't touch the other character - all kinds of spies around that'll report you if they think you're boxing even to rebuff or anything like that.
Welcome to the server by the way, surprised nobody said that before now :p

I'm not trying to get on your case either, but just be aware that being 40 years old or being direct have nothing to do with a person honesty or willingness to cheat the system. That's why you'll be met with a little bit of suspicion here or there....because even though you are new, this server has seen years of people trying to box.
I believe you, and I know you already had your question answered, but don't get too bent out of shape when a few people raise an eyebrow. We've seen it happen before.
Oh and welcome to the server!

Something didn't rub me the right way in terms of ravenshade32's response to Borador. It was rude in and of itself to be honest. Ravenshade you're one of those cowboy hat wearing dudes with too much facial hair that glares at young people any chance you get right? See how I can jump to conclusions and say 'you people' too?
Alas welcome to p1999. Calm down a little bit and enjoy the ride.

There are a lot of young detectives around here, and they will try and find anything they can to claim you don't have a wife/brother/sister/cousin and are just trying to two-box.
I have played here on and off for years with my twin brother and had no issues at all. Just have to wait up to a month or two for the IP exemption.

Ya a month or 2.. I waited 6 months, then firgured it out myself .
What, do they expect every gamer lives alone in solitude? Ya real boxer can figure it out, without an exemption.

Ouch, I never heard of any taking that long. Honestly, apply for an exemption then forget P99 exists. Then come back when for some reason you are reminded of it. You then can play with the people you live with. =/

Hard to call a favorite but I'm inclined to agree. I'm a big fan, Swish, keep it up. xD

Whoa whoa whoa, MONTHS for an ip exemption?
Playing ffxiv has gotten me back into the mmo spirit and I wanted to play with my wife and show her why i spend so much time on them... Can't afford a second sub so I thought to myself that P1999 would be a good option.
I doubt I'll be wanting to wait that long to play the game --- neither will she. Why so long a wait?

They only do the exemptions in batches when they have enough people to deem it worth their time.

With different buddies and such, we often play at work, and have applied for a few IP exemptions of the past couple years. I've had many approved the same day, and never had one go past a few days. I guess I've been extremely lucky compared to the population of people who typically post about their IP exemptions.

buddy of mine petitioned for ip exemption, included a list of his char, our friends char, and mine. was done in like a half hour. then we played in crushbone and killed a bottle of whisky while watching movies on netflix. that was a good night

Ouch a month or so? I mean i'm not going to argue over the servers rules but boxing can be monitored without needing exemptions for everyone. I'm one of the first people to dob boxers in (can't stand them), we left GW2 recently because of the bot and boxer problems and are playing FFXIV atm.
The problem we are finding as time goes on is all the hand holding mmo's give you, maps, telling you where quest mobs are, dungeon finders (where people hardly say a word then just leave) and everyones in such a hurry to level! I did the run on my troll the other day from Innothule to Neriak where the wife will be starting her DE and I had more conversations and noob help in that short run than I have had for the past 5 or so years in alot of mmos, which is a sad state of affairs. But it does remind me of the old EQ community that we missed from all those years back on VZ.
Hopefully the exemp doesnt take that long but in the meantime we keep ourselves busy with ff and rift :)

Evidence for this approach? Batches yes, but the second half of that sentence was all supposition.
Did you sell all those level 1 "premium" names you're holding onto yet?

Mine took about 3 weeks. It's all luck of the draw since they do them in batches.
I got around it temporarily by tethering my phone on my machine while my brother used the regular internet connection. Hopefully that doesn't get me banned for saying it :P
