Anybody played this game?
Have been tossing around a few options for something new to play recently and this caught my eye. Not sure what to think about it.

Any more detail for me than that? I've just checked out the website but you know how that is. Can't go by that.

it's fun, but almost no reward for time put in. played for a couple months with a buddy of mine. archery is the most fun thing because you have to arc your shots and it's a death around every corner kind of game which i thought was prettty cool for strategy. you increase your stats more from doing instead of gear. chop wood gives you str, swimming gives you stamina and str or something kind of thing. it'd be better if it wasn't punish player at all times based and you got somewhere after 12 hours of play time.

i played darkfail on release for 3 months, and was a fanboy for 2 years during vaporware
it was almost everything they said it would be, but .. nothing else
the skill mechanic and pvp features are the only cool thing in this game, there is almost no content.

The problem with Darkfall is it gave you an awesome pvp experience, but they failed to give a lot of PvE and also failed to give a compelling sandbox environment, so it kind of fell short.
That said, the rampant looting and griefing of new players also hurt it.
IMHO, darkfall and shadowbane are very similar in how they messed up. Too much griefing and not enough PvE and/or not enough sandbox environment to compliment the PvP that's already there.
But I have to say that PvP-centric MMORPG's like these will never be huge. Eve Online is probably the biggest they can be. It's ironic there's MORE pvp in games that're principally PvE, like WoW. I also think sandbox environments are less popular than PvE environments because most people prefer premade content.
-I- prefer player-made content in sandbox MMORPGs, but that's just me and I'm a minority in this. Many more players prefer premade content with lots of story and character injected into it.
With the approach of EQN we will see whether sandbox things can become popular, I think. However, EQN is using a system somewhat like GW2 where premade content will exist inside the sandbox. EQN is not full-sandbox; it's kind of a hybrid. But it's still a test on the marketability of sandbox things, though.
