View Full Version : Laundering money

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get money from one character to another, without involving another person. Unfortunately we can't drop money on the ground. So, I was thinking of maybe buying some items from vendors to transfer over and resell with the other character. Are there any ways of doing this without money loss?

I suppose the best bet would be to buy something that keeps it's value, from people in EC, like SoW potions, and then sell them with the other character. But that's possibly very time consuming and not guaranteed. So I'd prefer a solution with NPC vendors. If there is a way.

You will need to do a transfer with a trusted community member

Whenever I need to convert copper to plat (when I'm far from a bank) I buy gems off of the closest merchant, then sell them back. There's still some loss, but gems tend to hold their value pretty well, so if you pick the right ones you should only lose about 10% or so (maybe even a bit less) to the "exchange rate".

you can buy/sell drink/food for the same price at vendors... works to convert copper/silver to plat too.

Just tried that. Only worked with milk. Which are 5c (give or take). That'd take a lot of milk. I was hoping Iron Rations would work, but nope. Nor water, etc. The difference isn't huge, but it would add up.

Silly to go through all these hoops to transfer money. Just go to EC and ask any high level person in an established guild.

Just join a guild. Very few people in a guild level 50 or above will EVER rip you off. Some gems like Jade are pretty good at selling back. But you will still loose some plat. Most venders around banks are a total rip off. NFP comes too mind.

Just buy what you want with the character with money and then put it in a bag, find a safe spot where nobody goes, drop the bag as you are about to log and then log in the other character in the same spot and pick the bag up. Ive done it this way lots of times with fungi tunic, heiro cloak and other expensive items and I find it a lot safer then trusting someone I dont know well.

Just make very sure you have totally camped out of the game before you drop a bag. And I mean like not even on P1999 at all. If you have changed charactors a few times damn risky. It is not fail safe. I have lost at least 10 bags of stuff doing it over nearly 3 years. It will make you want to kick your dog if you have one. :(

Buy gems, they sell back for very close to the same, stack, and weigh nothing so are easy to transfer.

How about this alternative. Why don't you hand that money to good ol Stone Cold, I'll throw it in the trash, dump a couple of old lukewarm Steveweisers all over them, turn to you, look you in them beady little eyes, kick you in the gut, and deliver the Stone Cold Stunner to ya you fat piece of trash because your no good!!

Thats the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so!!!

i always found that the elf merchants in LFAY were well stocked with gargoyle eyes. those buy and sell for a very negligible difference. it was easier to bind there and run back and forth than going all the way back to kelethin to bank.

I use garg eyes and peridots to transfer between toons.
Also, I buy up garg eyes and peridots when I see them on vendors
around Norrath to get rid of pocket change.

Why do you want to transfer plat this way?

Are you trying to find a way the GMs wouldn't think about checking?, for RMT probably?

Twinking over gear / gems on the ground between characters is risky. Period.

If you insist on doing it...

1) Move both characters to a very little used zone. I'm a fan of Kaladim B. Oggok is really good too. You want a combination of low NPC & low player character counts - both of them.
2) Once the characters are both where you need them to be, log out of the game entirely. Close the program. Close all programs on your computer. Run a Registry cleaner. Restart your machine.
3) Start up only EQ as your sole program. Toss the stuff on the ground and camp without pause. Don't waste a second. Log the second character on and grab that shit.

The method is all about percentage chances of something going wrong. Be paranoid. Narrow that percentage for failure to be as low as possible - that means taking the above steps.

All of that said, just transfer with someone you trust / someone that's high level in a guild in EC or something. It's just not worth the stress.

Call my crazy but if someone cares so little about the rules they they're RMTing plat Im sure they'd just box transfer on an exempt account

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with RMTing -- its about transferring plat/items between characters.

I don't even know what RMTing is. And I already know how to to transfer items. I've done it several times. I was just looking for items to buy with one character, transfer to the other, and then sell. Thank you, to those of you who answered with good suggestions.

The fact of the matter is, I don't know a lot of people in the game yet. I just recently started playing again. I'm not going to transfer my money with some one who simply says they're trustworthy. I got burned a few times back on Live circa '99-00. Besides, I like being self-reliant and don't like inconveniencing others. That being said, I do appreciate the offers of help.

Man, I'm just being straight up..

Camp and park both toons in EC to cut down on wait times, send a tell to someone 50+ in a respectable guild, (take screen shots if you're extra paranoid in the 0.009% chance you do get scammed to name and shame here also for GMs when you /petition them, and that's being extreme) and be done with it lol..

People transfer items everyday like this in EC.. myself included.

I usually ask strangers to transfer my stuff and I have not once been hustled on this server. On the contrary, it seems that 99% of this playerbase is 20+, mostly mature, and dedicated to being a desirable community member.

Do not ever drop anything on the ground to transfer it, and do not even listen to someone in this thread that tells you how to do it.

Find someone in the tunnel from one of following guilds and ask them to transfer: Rapture, Bregan D'Aerth, Taken, The A-Team, Forceful Entry, Full Circle, Divinity, Europa, Inglourious Basterds, Azure Guard, and The Mystical Order.

Boom, you're set.

It's not that risky if you are smart about where you drop your bags and if both chars are parked on the same spot. I used to do this all the time when I was new to the server and didn't know anyone.

Asking a level 50+ from a reputable guild tag is probably the best solution along with a screenshot.Unless there isnt any around and if your like me who wants to park all their toons in the EC Tunnel anyhow im more of a Faydwer person myself.

Ive transferred/dropped bags of stuff and logged in my other characters to pick it up several times and out of all the times only one time did someone else find my bags due to me being in a hurry and dropping them in a dumb location other then that I just don't trust anyone yet and other methods are just too time consuming...
