Hey everyone,

So I'm trying to set up a laptop on my network as a server to host a website, and I'm having issues assigning a static IP to it.

My set-up goes: cable modem > netgear N150 router > cat5 > switch > cat5 > pc

When I try to assign this laptop a static IP on the adapter settings, it works fine until I reboot the machine, and then my router assigns it a different IP and my IP settings on the PC don't work anymore.

How do I ensure my router assigns the same IP to my laptop every time?

Thanks in advance.

I limited my router's range to 2-49, then I reserved an address in the router settings for 192.168.1.50.

My laptop is assigned a static IP of 192.168.1.50, subnet 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.1.1, and DNS server 8.8.8.8 alternate 8.8.4.4

Still not working :(

It looks like my router keep trying to assign an IP to my laptop, could that be it?

For a home network I find it easiest to just assign a static DHCP IP to the MAC of the computer I dont want the IP changing on.

I tried doing that and it didn't work (at least I thought I did). Could you explain how you did it?

Thanks for all the feedback also yall

Ok I assigned a static IP to the PC using its MAC address in the router menu and I think I got it. I think I had a couple conflicting settings.
