A month ago my roommate and I decided to start playing EQ again after talking to some friends that play on this server. Due to the anti boxing rules, we have not been able to play together. It has now been over 3 weeks since I petitioned for an exemption and not only don't have an answer, no one has even viewed the thread. Someone please help!
IP Exemptions are handled on a oldest to newest basis. Do not bump your thread or it gets moved to the end of the line. That being said, they do them in batches. A month is usually the longest time between batches now days, so it should be soon.

It can take a while, 3-4 weeks isn't surprising. You'll hear from some people that it took a day, other it took over a month. It all depends on who is available to process them.
Just keep an eye on your petition thread and do not bump it. They process exemptions from oldest post to newest, bumping the thread will only make it take longer.
Make sure you have followed the directions:
Go here:
http://www.project1999.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25
Click "New Thread"
Choose "IP Exemption" in the prefix drop down list. Make sure you include both your account and the other account's name, and the relationship of the other person you will be playing with.
Please be mindful that these are performed in batches, so it may take a few weeks to be set up.
IP exemptions are done in batches every few weeks. Stay patient and it will be processed.
IP Exemptions are also the one thread you actually don't want to bump.

Thank you for the responses. I haven't bumped the thread and I followed the directions so I guess I just keep waiting.

Chief Wiggum: Uh, I hate to interrupt your fun boys, but I got a few complaints that your game is crooked.
Homer: [laughs] And how.
Chief Wiggum: Gee, I'd hate to close you down. Maybe we can reach a little, uh, understanding here.
[holds out his hand]
Homer: [monotone] I understand.
Bart: Um, hey, Dad, I... I think he wants...
Homer: Not right now, Son. Daddy's talking to a policeman.
Chief Wiggum: Uh, let me put it this way. I'm looking for my friend Bill.
[glances down at the cash box]
Chief Wiggum: Have you seen any Bills around here?
Homer: No.
[points to Bart]
Homer: He's Bart.
Chief Wiggum: [groans] Listen carefully, and watch me wink as I speak, okay?
Homer: Okay.
Chief Wiggum: The guy I'm really looking for, wink,
[winks]
Chief Wiggum: is Mr. Bribe, wink, wink.
[winks twice]
Homer: It's a ring toss game.
Chief Wiggum: All right, that's it. I'm shutting this game down.
(lol JK you can't bribe the admins here)

Hey, OP: If you are actually two different dudes playing on two different computers, and are impatient, you can sign up for a VPN service ('bout 7 dollars a month - pay for a month) which will give you two different IPs.
I don't _think_ this is against P1999 rules? If it is, somebody let me know and I'll delete this post. But it's not multiboxing or anything, and it would let you and your friend play together immediately.

It isn't against the rules as long as you aren't using it to 2 box. But I would advocate tethering a phone rather than signing up for a VPN just to play. Even with a plan that allows a relatively low amount of data usage you can rack up a lot of hours on P99 without it having a significant impact.

You'll still be caught, because your defence will slip when you're tired and you'll visibly be boxing...and people like me report the shit out of you for kicks ;)
If anyone wants to box, try the Hidden Forest :)

I don't think anyone said they wanted to box? 2 players, same place...exactly what the IP exemption is used for legitimately. The phone tether/vpn service thing would be to get around that while you wait for the IP exemption.

The gents at strongvpn (http://strongvpn.com/) were super helpful for me. $7 to be able to play a game with my girlfriend for an extra few weeks while the poor overworked admins here got around to my application wasn't much of a price.
To be honest, I ended up liking the VPN capability so much that I kept it.

If RMT wasn't a bannable offense I'd setup a VPN-for-plat service out of my backup datacenter! 100 meg symmetrical, burstable to 1 Gbps. We're licensed for like 1000 AnyConnect users and rarely exceed 100.
Although now that I think about how many people would use it just to box it would probably result in my banishment either way.

You could sign people up, then randomly select an occasional victim to rat out to the server staff. That'd be tons more creative than most of the PvP that goes on around here, yet no more meta than batphoning to cockblock.
