Today I've been having this randomly occurring problem where my game will slow down for brief moments. This phenominon was not happening yesterday. The experience is similar to being in quicksand, the animations are slow, monsters animations are slow and the game feels sluggish. The event lasts anywhere from 5 seconds to 30 seconds. This is not game lag though, my chat still runs at the same clip. I ping 100 constant while this is happening as well. It is incredibly annoying and I just want it to stop. I'm assuming it must be something with my settings but I can't for the life of me.
Any help at all on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: So i've looked into it further, i've seen some threads stating this is an issue with dual core processors. I'm messing around with all my internal settings to get this sorted out. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Just going by trial and error at the moment.

Yeah I've had a similar experience since I switched to a new(er) laptop... run speed is the most noticeable thing.

Guessing by the OP that I'm also running a dual core system. If anyone has a solution other than some kind of overclocking I'd love to hear it :p

Symptom: Issues with rapid movement, or very slow movement / frame rate, double durations, crashing, etc. (reference)

Fix 1: Try running EQ under WinEQ2, Found at http://www.lavishsoft.com.

Fix 2: Restrict to one processor in msconfig:

Open the start menu, click on Run,type in msconfig and click on OK
In the System Configuration window click on the start sub menu and the on Advanced Options button.
In the second window that appear, you should be provide with an option for enabling and disabling the number of processors you want to use. (set num=1)
Validate your entry by clicking on OK.
Restart your PC and it should be fine.

Fix 3: Compatibility mode:

Right-click the program icon on your desktop or the shortcut on the Start menu for the program you want to run, and then click Properties.
Click the Compatibility tab, and change the compatibility settings for your program.
Try Windows 95/98 settings.

Fix 4: Use cpu affinity setting. Change your shortcut from

eqgame.exe patchme

to

cmd.exe /C Start /affinity 1 eqgame.exe patchme

Note: You can also change the affinity of a process in Task Manager after it is running (mixed success).

Also having similar sluggish events. Worked fine yesterday then i alt-entered into windowed mode before my /exit. Not game breaking sluggish events, but definitely is noticable while running and casting spells.

Edit: Not sure which did it to fix it, but I ended up going into Alt-O, refreshed my Video Mode, spammed "Switch to windowed mode" a couple of times and game is working great again.
