Hello everyone!
I am new to the server and was curious which class is the best for tracking rare mobs on this server?
Would appreciate any input!
Thanks

Hunters are best cause they can turn on track in the minimap. Of course anyone can use the addon that announces when it sees a rare spawn within range, just be sure to clear your cache after you see one the first time or it won't announce it again next time!

But for real I don't really know. Track was changed recently so it only lists 20 mobs total, no matter how many more than that are within tracking range. Rangers have a much longer track distance than druids and bards, but when you can only see so many mobs that is of limited use? Also rangers can sort their window but I'm not sure how exactly that interacts with the 20-mob limit.

Rangers are best trackers. Ranger + a druid is the best setup for checking a bunch of zones fast for rare spawns.

What makes the druid better than a bard? Bard can run faster and has higher max track skill.

I think he meant so the druid can port the ranger around.

Looks like this was just removed with the last patch. Not sure if that makes Druids or Rangers the best. I know Rangers have the biggest distance, but if you are tracking for a specific mob with a specific spawn point or path, a Druid may probably be able to find it quicker due to their smaller tracking radius.

anyone playing right now want to excite those of us at work about the potential track change reverse?
did druids simply get their range back or did ALL the changes get removed IE no more limited to 20 targets

Wiki mobs spawn loc. Sit on it and kill phs. 99% of the time track is not required.
Any class can do this.

I don't think range was changed, but the 20 target limit was definitely removed.

Druids are still capped at 50. But I guess the total you can track has been lifted. :(

Ranger will always be the best at trackin. What else the class can do?

Rangers? What else can they do?
Peel from casters with snap aggro.
Root park for emergency CC.
Offtank adds until CC'd.
Spam heal necroes and shamans for mana conversion.
Pull outdoors extremely well.
Provide DPS.
(velious) Weaponshield raid targets until slow lands
eat DT's ( halflings preferred )

You forgot to add they can run around backwards with a snared light blue mob shooting 283 arrows at it killing it in a matter of, ohh say, 22 minutes. :p Uber XP. Well sort of.

Range of tracking is determined by skill and Rangers have the highest caps. Rangers also start with tracking at level 1 and skill goes up from there where druids and bards don't get it till later (20 for druids and 30 or 35 for bards, if I recall correctly). Theoretically they should have the highest range available for a given level, but not entirely sure here because it's been mucked with a bit....Tracking changed live before the Titanium client but after classic and I'm sure that's what's giving them a hard time getting it tweaked for classic here. I have both a ranger and druid and will check it out next time I'm on and have some time to mess around. I just know that after the last patch before the one this week my druid's tracking was completely borked compared to what it was (you could literally see mobs before they showed up on track) and the ranger's wasn't much better until his skill exceeded the levels of the druid's, but I just rolled him this summer so have no idea what it was like before. Haven't been on since this new patch so can't say, now.
Rangers are also the only class that gets different sort modes beyond "normal." They can sort by distance, alphabetically, and by con, and in reverse order. Druids and Bards cannot.
Short version of the above...Tracking has been all over the place here but the best tracker, regardless, is Ranger. As others have said, a team of trackers works best in a practical sense because they can port and cover a zone faster.
