Did the wolves in the city of Thurgadin (Alpine, Avalanche, Frostpaw, and direwolf pups) look like the dire wolves elsewhere in Velious?

i.e.
http://eq.jeuxonline.info/images/bestiaire/4/3037.jpg

Or did they look like this?

http://www.oocities.org/nikkye1/screenshots/critterz/wolves.jpg

Looked around, but couldn't find any classic thurgadin screenshots with wolves.

Really the only question I have for thurgadina. Looks good.

It was definitely the latter as I remember it. I'll try to dig up some proof.

The latter, if I recall correctly.

EDIT: Yup. 95% sure. I know these are the new models, but I think that's the equivalent of the latter whitewashed old world model...

Unfortunately they all look like that now :T Like the ones in Kael, West Wastes, etc. No distinction afaik.

Damn homogenization.

I thought I remembered all the wolves (both giants and dwarf faction) in velious having the dire wolf model (top one) including the ones in thurg/GD.

Picture of the ring war with coldain wolves
http://www.trysor.com/afterlife/ringquest/ringquest01.jpg

Also the picture of a coldain tracking wolf in GD is the dire wolf model on alla...
http://zam.zamimg.com/images/i/d/id5383.png

which would lead me to believe the wolves inside thurgadin are also the dire wolf model.

Could well be right - this one's a doozy. I've searched images for every term and named I can think of in the off chance there's a wolf in the background, and have come up empty.

wouldn't the best way to do this is check out eqmac? Velious is pretty immaculate there

Nope. Wolf models changed in Luclin. EQmac is Planes of Power.

Either way I'm happy that we'll have the dire wolf models. They won't display NPC names over their head, correct?

for what its worth. I spent countless hours with a dire charmed drakkel dire wolf killing giants for the drops for yelinak faction. I had the tormax head and needed the faction. this was during PoP era and the dire wolves then had the old model. I bet if you cheked it on EQmac they may still as well

Searched quite a number of EQ screenshot websites/archives and the usual places. No screenshots so far of the Thurgadin dire wolves.

What file is the wolf model pulled from?

And, what is the name of the model inside the file?

Can check this on the Trilogy client, have it installed.

Coldain Wolves outside in Great Divide should be the same as inside Thurgadin. Whether they were white or friendly looking... I don't recall.

Samoht

wolves were white.

if they were grey on your screen, it was because you played long after velious was over.

Client has the dire wolf model within the thurgadin chr s3d. Wanted to double check anyways as there are often orphaned textures in zones.

lol @ ele.

Dire Wolf model looks badass - me and Dolic were discussing it tho - Dolic seemed to think that those models were only found in Kael / GD and the "nice" ones in Thurg/EW.

No evidence to support same - but makes sense dorfs would have friendly lookin' wolves and giants have badass mean ones.

Just sayin.

The ones in Thurgadin were the white ones. I don't have evidence either, just memory.

This is anecdotal, but I do remember the first time I traveled to Great Divide/Thurgadin. I freaked out initially because I thought the waterfall patrol wolves would be KOS. That probably means they were gray/dire (aka menacing looking).

I'm pretty sure the thurgadin wolves were white. That pic of the coldain with the dark/evil looking wolf just looks off. Like above, I have no evidence. Just memory.

Not sure one exists for OG velious.

If it did, it should display race, which would help. Regular wolves are global, race 42. Dire wolves are race 171.

To be fair, the regular wolf model (race 42) is global, and wouldn't need to be included in the individual zone file. I was really curious if it was added to thurgadin chr and not used, or if it was used. I mean, there's a picture of Ike Turner in frozenshadow (lol), so often things are derelict.

I still think it is the dire wolf model though. Leaving it that way until proven otherwise.

As an update to this, yes.

gale wolves in plane of growth use the global wolf model. In the same zone, spirit flux wolves use the dire wolf model.
