We will be hosting a 2v2 PVP Tournament in the Arena on Saturday, October 26th at 1pm EST. Entrants must be level 50 or above to register for the tournament. You can select anyone as your partner, there are no restrictions on what classes may enter the tournament.
If you wish to enter the tournament, please have ONE person from your team send me a PM with both of your names, classes, and levels. I will release a bracket the day before the tournament so you can plan your strategy. You'll find out why this is important in just a moment.
Spectator and General Rulings:
Level Restrictions - You MUST be 50+ to compete in the event. (If you are below the level limit at the time of registration you MAY NOT REGISTER. This is to prevent someone dropping out and messing up the bracket and other peoples planning).
I will respond back to each request. If you don't get a response by the day before the deadline petition in game or get a hold of Derubael.
Anyone found attacking a GM, a Guide, or fellow Spectators, may be banished from the Arena, death touched, or have their RL pets murdered without warning.
The Arena is off limits to unauthorized PvP 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the event. This is to ensure that the contestants and spectators are safe.
Spectators shall remain seated and not casting during the match. Any spell casting shall be considered aimed at a participant, and either harmful or helpful to someone in the match.
Anyone who casts any spells (including Bard songs) during a match can be death touched and removed from the Arena.
Spectators shall not use /shout for any reason, but use /ooc instead. This is so that those involved in the match can use /shout, and the /ooc channel can be turned off to reduce distraction to the contestants involved. Use of /shout by Spectators at anytime can result in death.
Spectators shall not interfere with this event. Severe penalties are used only when directly attacking a player involved in the match, attacking a judge during the match, or healing a player involved in a match. However, if you cast a spell or make a move for the center platform for any reason, you will be removed from the Arena immediately. No second chances.
The Project1999 staff may limit the amount of people in the zone to control conditions of lag or frame rate for the participants. The event shall start open seating, but may close off at any time. The Event Staff may use any sort of decision on who stays and who leaves to ensure the event is a success. This should not be implemented until a minimum of 150 players in the zone has been reached.
General Combatant Rules:
Combatants must stay on the Arena platform. The top of the throne, in the throne, or behind the throne is off limits to the combatants during the matches. The four firepots are also off limits to the combatants. Use of these areas in match combat will lead to contestants being disqualified.
Starting positions are allowed anywhere that is legal (meaning not on the throne or in firepots) that is on your half of the tiles.
All participants will be debuffed before the match.
Weapons with the following spell effects attached to them will not be allowed in Best of the Best Series; Knockback, Fear, Invisibility, Shrink and Blind. T-Staffs, Windstrikers, and Trochilic's Skean will not be allowed
The use of "Right Click" items is not permitted, with three exceptions. Pumice stones are usable in this tournament. Epic clicky effects are also usable. And finally, we WILL BE ALLOWING the use of buff pots (IE, Sow pot, fire resist pots, etc) but ONLY DURING THE 30 SECOND BUFF PERIOD AT THE START OF A FIGHT. This is to prevent the use of heal pots etc. No gate pots or port pots (unless you really feel like batmanning out of the tourny mid fight and taking an automatic forfeit).
We are allowing the use of rogue poisons.
The following spell types may not be used in any of the Best of the Best Series: Any form of Fear or Charm unless directed at a pet. Any type of Blind spells. Gravity Flux or Invert Gravity. Any type of gate or translocation spell (Example: shadow step).
The following item types will not be allowed in the Best of the Best Series: Any type of Artifact items. Regeneration type items ARE ALLOWED.
In the event that the combat should exceed 15 minutes of real time, then the Event Staff reserves the right cast an AoE Snare spell on the contestants, and the contestants are to remain snared till end of match. (if a match if almost clearly over, then it should be allowed to finish naturally).
Any use of exploits or bugs will result in immediate disqualification from the event.
An important part of this tournament is that we will NOT be providing skill refreshes between matches. This is an endurance style tournament, and managing your cooldowns for your fights will be an important part of winning. This is why the bracket will be posted in advance (so that you may plan your cooldowns accordingly). You will NOT BE ALLOWED TO KILL YOURSELF to refresh cooldowns such as Harmtouch or Lay on Hands. Anyone caught doing this will be disqualified.
The final round of this tournament will be held in a randomly selected zone somewhere across Norrath. This final round will be best of FIVE for the title "The Duelist", awarded to both members of the winning team. For these matches, skill refreshes WILL be provided after every round. Spectators will NOT be allowed at this final round, however these matches as well as THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT will be broadcast live on twitch.tv once i've selected a cameraman.
The current champions, Turp and Cecily, will have an opportunity to defend their title in this final round. They will automatically be entered into the final round, and whoever wins the semi-final-final will go on to face them in the special battleground of our choice. The winner of this match will earn the title, "the Duelist".
Class Specific Rules/Rewards
There is no entry fee for this event, and the only prizes will be titles awarded to the winners. .
A 30-second buffing period will be given before direct combat in the match.
All Armors and Weapons available to the contestant's class will be allowed. Unless it has an effect stated in General Combat rules as unusable.
Good luck, and remember that ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED AND APPROVED BY THE 24th OF OCTOBER
If you aren't level 60 I still very much encourage you to compete. The last time we did this, a 52 cleric/60 warrior made it to the final round and only barely lost to Turp/Cecily, so everyone has a chance regardless of level.
