View Full Version : Raising Awareness for some Fixes to Spell Particles

I wanted to raise some awareness as many people do not visit the tech forums.
A few of us have been working on fixing the spell particles. Many spells no longer have "floating" hand particles that get in your face. They also level up with the character correctly. The most noticeable difference other than the improved hand particles will be the healing spells. They now have a lot more particles similar to Classic.
Placing the linked files in your directory will make these improvements. Back up your old spellsnew.eff spellsnew.edd files in case you like the buggy versions:

Keylogger! The healing effect is very nice. This was the one thing that really interrupted the classic feel for me. Nice work!

Yeah I'm loving this little fix! Will this be overwritten when the devs release patches?

I think this will be overwritten in the short term. When we do get all spells fixed at least in level progression and hand particle directions it will become default and included in future patches. For now this is just a work in progress.

I've been using these since you guys released the first version, not only is it closer to classic...it looks a whole lot better.

I use the modified particle files as well. When it is more complete, I plan to include it in the default patch files.
Telin, what can the community do to assist with this aside from the hex edits? Test on eqmac, have certain classes cast specific spells and screenshot/fraps the effects, etc (?).
I hope we can get all the research needed prior to eqmac closing on the 18th.
Keep up the good work.

The majority of classic spell particles can be found on YouTube and most of the spells make sense in how they progress in complexity. The only issue eqmac can solve are beyond in-game observations. Client issues like how are classic particle emitters aligned to skeletal meshes and how can titanium client properly load the spells.eff particle table are probably not terribly affected by the server closure.

Great job man, this is one of the key things this server has been missing.
