Wasn't even interested in trying the beta, I assume it uses another battlelog style system. That + their "expansion" pack release structure will keep me away from anymore BF games. BF2 is one of my top 10 favorite games, BF3 was a huge let down for me.

I like it a lot so far but I'm mostly playing the single player campaigns to get all gold unlocks (mission 4 is a bitch to get gold on, the tank keeps killstealing me).

I never played CoD and probably never will. I'm not very good at FPS games, but the Battlefield games have a lot of vehicles which I like. BF4 has a testing map where you can test every vehicle with any unlocks you have.

One problem though is there's a bit of stuttering, mostly audio. It's not bad but there's definite stuttering. I notice it most when driving a tank. But the game is brand new, I expect these sorts of issues in the beginning.

If you want a competitive shooter that pits soldiers against soldiers in relatively confined maps, you’ll stick with Call of Duty. If you want big levels with all sorts of vehicles, you’ll go with Battlefield (or possibly Halo.)

Soldier vs soldier in confined maps is for teabagging gays. Give me vehicles in huge 64 player maps.

Battlefield line of FPS are the most refined and advanced in the whole genre. Sound is amazing, style is amazing, graphics are amazing, everything about them is top notch.

The first modern warfare is one my favorite shooters of all time. Battlefield Bad Company is prolly my favorite battlefield game. Haven't liked a cod game over battlefield ever though.

Completely agree... they really blew CoD out of the water with BF3, the graphics, the weapon selection, the teamwork (medikits, ammo resupply etc).

However, the game was let down by the 5 expansions...of which only 1 (forget the name, but involved warfare that included more tanks/helicopters/etc) was worth buying into.

Premium let it down, they just added in RNG selection weapon titles with ever so slight differences... and oh yeah, you could customize your camo a bit more :/

Private servers were a great idea for people wanting to customize the game they were playing, but all too often if you were "too good" for the admins team they'd either kick you from the server or force you to switch to their team so they could ensure victory every time they played. Finding a decent private server with good admins was a needle in a haystack, and proves why players shouldn't get a say in controlling anything in games like that :p

Hopefully BF4 will address some of those issues, and they'll have expansions that are wholly innovative and worthwhile.. but count on EA to screw with your wallet a little more this time.

Maybe... I did the beta. The one thing that pissed me off was how much easier it was to gun someone down from 1/2 way across the map with an AR as opposed to a sniper. Sniper has freakish fall off and lead. AR have little to none. Did they ever change that?

Battlefield Vietnam was amazing before EA took it over. When it was independant (can't remember what it was called at the time) it was fucking fantastic.

If you missed out on it, check out Galactic Conquest. Modders put this out probably a 1 1/2 years after bf1942 came out but it is still an EXTREMELY well done mod. Honestly, better than almost all Lucasarts star wars games.

@Swish: I agree completely with the expansions but mostly just on the principle of the DLC. They were all well done but I felt ripped off that on release day I'm paying $110 instead of 60 - why not just release a bigger game? Also, gonna have to disagree with the which expansion was best. Armored Kill was terrible on XB and PS due to the size of the maps with the other expansions maxxing out at maps the size of Kharg island. Can't satisfy them all but at least mod it so it doesn't feel like you're releasing it for someone else.

Doesn't mean you're 12, it means you like a different sort of FPS. I personally suck at FPS games and don't have the reflexes to do what kids can do, and I like BF's more realistic approach and all the vehicles you can use.

Yeah I can get behing this - you really need to choose an FPS that matches your style. I used to be heavy into the cod-like fps style and played nothing but Metro and CQB but after a while of playing on servers with a somewhat varied map rotation, the medium sized maps started gaining traction with me. Before long, I could find any action level I wanted with any sized map so there's that I guess.

I can't get over the maturity and team-only chat associated with cod. Squad chat ftw.

Extremely underrated imo but it was the modding community that turned that genre on its head.

- desert combat.
- bf vietnam.

All of these were done on 1942 and scooped by EA (except GC). EA has been a cancer as of late.

Agreed on 2142, but it still had those cheapo bugs from bf2 that were never fixed. Never enjoyed CoD like BF tho, always got so boring after a few weeks.

Until DICE learns that MMOFPS is the fps of the future, I'll never play BF series again. PS2 wars are so much more interesting and exciting than anything I've ever experienced in BF. Its like 3 continents of 30 Battlefield maps with no load screens (unless you redeploy). Pretty sure BF will come out with an mmofps game in the near future.

I was BR20 and CR4 in Planetside (NC), and if I had a PC powerful enough to play PS2 I'd be all over it! Agree with Dullah completely..its the future, and I'm surprised SOE haven't promoted it harder.

I found PS2 boring as shit. It was fun until the novelty wore off. Unlocking weapons takes forever and a day, and for "future" weapons they're all pretty bland and generic. Vehicles are fun, but BF vehicles are even more fun and BF looks and sounds way better.

You dont have to buy anything in Planetside 2. I was premium for a few months just to support the game, but I never bought things with station cash, only with points I earned in combat. I'm nearly BR60 and I have just about everything I need on all kits.

Yes, PS2 isn't perfect, guns are really generic but thats only because there is so much griping and groaning about any gun that isn't exactly like another factions gun. They do the best they can to keep things balanced, so every gun is basically the same power only the rate of fire, power or recoil is adjusted slightly.

Used to pay $8 a month for PS1... I wouldn't mind putting in around that amount for some small upgrades. Overall though its hard to get a subscription model to work anymore... would rather everyone paid to play but people are too accustomed to free now :/

Ya its true. The thing about F2P games is they are learning to offer more and more pixel packages that allow to skin stuff. Thats what a lot of people in PS2 do. Its going to make a fabulous model for EQ Next with so many things to craft, build and design. The number of looks, custom models or skins they could integrate into something like that would be enough for them to easily make more than a subscription game.

It really is a shame people don't want to do subscriptions anymore especially for such intense game design and content babysitting. I'd rather live in a world where people got used to subscriptions versus getting used to micro transactions. Those things are going to kill the gaming industry from the inside out.

I can agree with this since point and click is a staple of any fps. Although you may not have the twitch skill coming from bf series, you do get ace pilots, drivers etc. competitive or not that shit takes real skill.

But yeah cs/quake > other fps games for skill.

I've been noobing it up on the PC the past week and it's fun but crashes too often. Tanks kick ass, LAVs kick a little less ass, mobile AA kicks ass, attack boats kick ass, jets are a pain in the ass to fly and attack choppers seem neutered.

I have no idea what it's like on consoles, but it looks and sounds fantastic on PC with ultra settings.

BF4 is legit, I'm not a huge FPS fan - although I love games like Doom 3 and Deadspace.

I played a lot of 1.6 and source, I'm sure we all have.

The maps in BF4 are amazing! I've done some really cool shit, but my favorite thing to do is to get massive multi-kills with C-4.

This Heli tried to get a road kill on me when I was on a building, I slipped to the side and tossed 1 C-4 on the side before it was out of range - I watched it soar off as I hit detonate. GLORIOUS FEELING!

B. The game rocks, Dice was forced to release it a little too early but they are working out the bugs. It's pretty much just a way revamped BF3, better graphics, neater stuffs.

Crank your mouse sensitivity all the way up when flying (if you're using a mouse and keyboard) the planes become infinitely more responsive, makes flying a blast.

Lmao, nice thread indeed sir. I bought PS3 and now PS4 to be able to play with friends and family of mine who do not play on their PC. And I am just so used to playing FPS games via controller that the transition to keyboard/mouse really inhibits my ability to play. Yes, I am sure I could get a controller to play with using my PC but that leaves out the friends/family part which is when I have the most fun playing!

I am glad you spoke about bugs. I feel bad for Dice because everyone puts the blame on them but they were forced into releasing it early. There's really only 2-3 bugs that have effected me.

1) The "rubber-banding" bug where you are running and get warped/staggered back to where you just came from 2 seconds before.

2) Some connection issues involving joining a game.

3) Shots not registering against my opponents.

They don't happen enough to make it unplayable and it seems to happen to everyone at the same time. Other then that I absolutely love this game and haven't even opened the new CoD that came with my PS4.

I agree. I've seen an increase in rubber-banding in games with ~50+ players. I've also seen it in games with less players but it happens only once or twice in 30 minutes of gameplay. The hit registry has only happened to me once in however many hours it took me to get to level 16 so far. I'm with ya, I'll keep playing no matter what as it is an excellent game that I know they will only improve on.
