As a preface to this thread, I'm just trying to save some time from running across the world and checking.
The Wiki has the guards inside most cities listed as "immune to magic" but I was under the impression this really only applied to the two guards at the gate in most cities. Does anyone know if most guards that roam cities (typically between 35-43) are actually immune to magic?
Thanks in advance kind community.
Guards that roam cities are most assuredly not immune to magic.

Only the newbie guards are immune to magic. So every guard inside Kaladim should be fair game, while the 4 guards posted outside in Butcherblock will steam roll any caster.

Good to know - Kaladim was actually what I was thinking about in terms of xping off guards:
- appears to be lots of spawns.
- levels 40-43 (db to a 54).
- 1.3x xp over outdoor zones.
- stable loot.
- can bind at druid port in and vend.
- shrink cuz I'm a barb.
- dorfs.
Any other good cities out there? I'm thinking halas wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the fact that I don't want to shit in my own backyard.

do the world a favor and go kill some Dark Elves
Halas guards are lvl 40. I think Neriak 3rd gate has mobs high enough, not sure about Neriak commons (I couldn't really split the commons guards well on my mage so didn't bother with them much); FQ guards are great XP but lower, I forget how low.
I'd imagine your real baseline is a comparison to KC soloing...

I hear that the high elf city has decent level guards, never personally done it so can't add too much, but a 55ish necro told me he's solo'd there so maybe try there if you're in the neighborhood checking kaladim

The inner city guards are tougher than the suburban guards

Dwarf guards are great lots of wanderers you can solo pull; so are the guards in Neriak.

On live the Felwithe guards were paladins and LoH'ed and healed each other. If they're that way here I'd stay away and go kill gnome guards or something.

Killing dwarf guards as a barbarian is not RP.

Kaladim guards are looking the other way on Miners Guild 628's obvious mine safety violations. The Tribunal demands blood.

It's not the city guards job to enforce safety regulations, the miners union oversees implementation and enforcement of safety codes. It's in their constitution.

On Live during Velious the interior Felwithe guards were cheesy easy kills with great loot drops (ringmail, gems, 2h swords). My mage went from solo'ing the entrance rows of Hole elemental golems to the Felwithe guards once the elementals went light blue.
On live the guards didn't cast worth a darn. They never bothered to dispel, never laid on hands, never used offensive spells, and only attempted to cast a heal at low health, which you'd just blast them down past as a Mage regardless.
Here it's much, much different. While It's still possible to solo those guards for the exp and loot, the Felwithe high elves seem to use a good assortment of spells early, and often.

he can be a evil barbarian... I know as a gnome necr on live i killed gnome guards. I was a worshipper of innoruuk and didnt give a fuck !!!

I feel like I shouldn't but the loot is just too good. Dwarves at the entrance to Kaladim are DB and LB to me and I can easily epic dot them down. Got just over 400pp/hour there so its pretty decent loot. Need to be able to split up to 6 of them though.
Gonna probably try neriak or grobb next.
I think I'm becoming more evil but I just can't stand safety violations, nomsayin?

This is no longer true. The guards SPAM spells, which is why i quit doing them after a while. And they're Paladins... damn Paladins

Back end of Felwithe guards are easy pickings for necros, 21pp per kill guaranteed with some FS/gems/coin on top. If you can clear all 6 before the 1st one spawns again you're onto a winner :)
Just bind/gate to Steamfont druid vendor to sell... WR bags are a bonus for it.

WR bags are a must-have. I'm 183 str buffed and in 1 dorf cycle (bout 5 outside and 10 indoors) I'm at 275/183.
Also I'm carrying all the cash from my lewts so there's that too :)
Conclusion: dorf guards definately worth the faction hit for a 54 evil shaman.

thought dorfs had higher magic resists than your ave race? or is that just in d&d ?

The wiki says Deputy Looh in Misty is immune to magic.
But for that to be true, Necro spells would have to be non-magic.

I didnt read all the replies. but if you are a 54 necro... duo charming CoM ramparts is where its at. anything else is secondary exp.

Whatever you do DONT KILL THE GNOMES life is hard enough at 2 feet tall. Go kill those tall Halflings - heck their loot sells for more anyhow

I think halflings are worth it in your thirties and forties but after that you can't really xp off them.
I'm doing this at 54/55 so I need to do it in cities where the avg level is 40-43. Kaladim has been great so far if you can split the entrance. Would be next to impossible if you can't safely lock down 5-6 mobs.
Other zones that have guards 39-43 are:
- Halas: definately not going to do as in a Barb. Doesn't really look worth it as they only appear to have 2hs weps and its pretty tight in that city.
- Grobb: they don't list the guards for that zone but I seem to remember them being 40ish. Would be worth it for sword and shield (easy cash) although finding a vendor nearby would be tough unless you really like running.
- Kaladim: awesome so far. Bind at druid rings and run back. I can do full entrance at this point (healthy mix of high lb/db mobs). I tried going further towards the king but unfortunately you run into A Bloodforge Captain who is probably 45-46. Although he's not really too hard (malo'd, perma-rooted and slowed for early breaks) he has around 8k hp which basically guarantees everything is going to pop behind you as you dot him down.
- Felwithe: looks good if you can fear kite there (heard of Necros doing this handily). Are they actually Paladins and do they cast? Not worth it if its the case unless you can keep them from LoH/other pally spells.
- Kelethin: saw an ikky monk doing it. Appeared to actually work fairly well. My biggest concern with this was z axis agro from "gate" guards at the lift but they didn't join the fight even though they were right below him. I would be wary of wandering GM's but overall this looked really promising.
- Ak'Anon: there appear to be some NPC's in here that would be worth killing but overall the distribution seems pretty high. Would probably have to roam to see anything worthwhile.
- WFP: done all the time. No explanation needed.
- EFP: if you don't care about banking or can bypass the KOS issue it would seem these guards would be fairly good too. Loot table on them is promising.
- O****: done already by druids and other quadding classes. Dece loot and lots of places to kite. I think these are 40 as well.
I'm really interested in this because I think the "mid-end" game is very overcrowded. My baseline for "good" has always been loot/availability/viability versus solo/camps in similar dungeons (KC, SolB etc...).
Fwiw I made around 2.5k in just over 9 hours doing dwarves and their associated brethren outside Kaladim. Also got 2.5 oranges which I think is fairly decent.
Post your stories herr!!!

Instead of posting a new thread, was wondering if anyone knew the levels of the four guards at the wall in Misty Thicket/gate guards to Rivervale are?

there are ogre vendors in Feerott that i believe will sell to anyone. one is right on the river, north end, east side. he's conned indifferent to every toon i've ran past him.

That's awesome! I always thought Oggok was popular for druids due to the wolf form faction nulifaction. Didn't realize you could sell in the Feerrott.
