you have to make time for your hobbies , and if your working more than 40 hrs look for another job . i recently spent 10 years doing construction working 50+ hrs a week driving long distances for pretty good money . i made a job switch and started working at the sheriff's department and iwork 40 hrs a week and drive 3 mins 1 way a day .... 40 is more then enough a week .. if its not .... imo .... find a different job

I used to teach which gave me a decent amount of time to play. Now I run a crew of utility workers at a retirement facility, which absorbs a lot more of my time. I still make room for hobbies but for now it's mostly EVE.

The trick is to actually set aside time for it. It doesn't have to be a lot, but keep up with what you're interested in and make sure to moderate it into your life.

Here's my advice;
1) I don't let my employer sap me of life, I do my time and I'm out
2) I play at night, which for me is offpeak, so I need to find either active groups or people to duo with. Don't be afraid to send out tells asking people around your level range to group
3) if you're primarily playing offpeak times, think about choosing a class that can either port or has run speed buffs; both will reduce travel time

Best of luck :)

I work 40 hours a week. I simply can't play during US primetime, because that's when I sleep. If I really wanna make a raid, like sky (usually) or Efreetis (rarely), I'll take the sleep debt and only get like 5 hours of sleep. It sucks, but I do that way less since it definitely takes a toll on your body. I play like 5 hours a day. That's enough to attend the majority of raids, surprisingly.

Yep. If you don't want to spend / have the time to spend playing, there's not much of a time commitment to raiding atm. The only time consuming raids are Sky, VP train wars, and Inny / Cazic with 80 of your closest friends from other guilds derping up the zone.

Id say if you are a "normal" person who works 40 hours a week.

Try to get in a couple hours a day - you know when the GF is busy doing something or whatever

= 10 hours per week

Then hammer a solid 5-7 hours a day each weekend day if you can (try early in the morning, its surprising the hours between 7am-Noon that you wouldnt use anyhow)

= 10=14 hours a week

For a grand total of 20-24 hours a week which isnt hardcore but its not chump change, you will certainly progress

From reading these posts, the answer is "don't have a life outside of your job and EQ" from what I can tell....or don't have a GF/wife that lives with you.

I work 40 hours a week and there is no way with spending time with my GF, working out, and drinking with friends I could log " 5-7 hours a day each weekend day" and 2 hours a weekday without losing one of the aforementioned. If I could get my GF to play EQ it would be doable...... don't you guys every sit back and think that you are wasting your lives away playing 7 hours of EQ every Saturday and Sunday?

Bolded is the dealer breaker in my opinion. When I was on my own I could always work in a few hours even with work/running/hanging out. Now that the girlfriend is living with me, I might get 10 hours a week if she has studying to do. Makes me feel a bit sad that I can't re-live the fun of my early teens as much as I might like to but I wouldn't trade it.

While I agree that 5-7 hours per day is excessive, "waste" is subjective. Your thing is working out. Other people might consider that a waste.

After work and sleep, I have about 10 hours per day to do whatever the fuck I feel like. Wife gets a few hours... maybe. I really don't spend "weekly" time with friends, especially doing something as wasteful as drinking with them. I talk to them a few minutes, here and there, and maybe see the especially close ones once every 2-3 weeks.

So... 7 hours per day. Jeez... what to do?

Have multi characters you bought camped out at raid targets, then laugh when people have to actually take the time to move to the location since account trading is banned for reasons unknown.

I work 60 hours a week, doubt there are many more people on the server that work more than that. I have plenty of time to play. The misconception is that you need 10 hour grindfests to "accomplish" anything, or that you have to get 2 levels every time you're on. Find your niche; what makes EQ fun for you and do it in moderation. That way when you get a chance at good ole 10 hour neckbeardom it's fun, not business as usual / one step closer to burning out.

Two years ago I was a student w/ a long-distance girlfriend. I camped AC for days, grinded XP on a few toons and got loots on loots, I could stay up/sleep in etc it was magical. I was saving money instead of going out, I was hanging w/ my buddies on skype, I was studying while I sat meditating and I can't say I regret how much I played.

Now I'm an attorney living w/ girlfriend, she is pretty busy so outside of work I generally do have some time to play. However, she does troll me pretty hard and require that I hang out with her, what a cruel world.

In every game from CS, Halo, COD, BF, EQ, WOW, UO, other MMOS I've heard the age old "you're a noob" vs. "you have no life" debate. I think I've been on both sides in different times in my life. Both have their ups and downs.

If you're really at a point in your career when you're bothered that EQ is interfering w/ your work you may want to take a step back from both (EQ/job) and evaluate what is important to you and what your specific goals are in game and in life.

Note - I'm responding to this P1999 forum post from my work.

I am a old turd but I can tell you I have been "addicted" to EQ for years. But a word of advice, stay the hell away from MMO's and TV and your life will be a TON better.

I am sure most of the people on here are males, but most women are not going to put up with you playing EQ for hours at a time. Like it or not the old saying about women "you can't live with them, you can't live without them" is true. Get a life and enjoy it. It goes fast as hell and you really can't go back.

A good woman is hard to find and if you piss it away for a silly online game you need your ass beat. Or lose your job over playing it at work. Both are just stupid shit.

I was saving money instead of going out

When I don't have a game to play, I spend a lot more money. That is why this server is perfect for me. It's free, and I play a lot. I spend less money on gas, less money on eating out, less money on impulse buying. I don't think this lifestyle is healthy for everyone, but it is for me right now.
