Would anyone be interested in a semi-permanent leveling group? I'd like to get started on P99 but I've never played here before. I have high play time but I don't have much interest in soloing and looking for group constantly. I really like to get a small group of like minded people together and level up from 1. Doesn't have to be breakneck speed or anything, just experience the game.
My times are flexible. My class/race choice is flexible as well.
I can use voice or type doesn't matter to me.

your best bet is just to start out, perhaps in a place like gfay and find people around orc hill or CB. No one really groups at all until at least lvl 5 - it just doesnt make any sense.
Id say roll a cleric or chanter if you always want to finds groups.
Just my opinion

Yea maybe that is the problem. I started as an Iksar necro and it's a ghost town. I definitely need people to play with

Still would much prefer finding a group to level up with and not constantly searching everytime I log in. Let me know if anyone is interested =)

You aren't looking hard enough. Field of bone and Kurn's are never ghost towns and if they are it's like 4a.m and everywhere else is also. Furthermore when you hit 20 Warslik Woods giant fort is loaded with players 24/7 as well, then Frontier Mountains. Iksar have it very good for a long time.

Not to be pessimistic but that is going to be harder than you might think to have a static group.
most lowbies are alts - some are new for sure from EQ Mac, however there is one server that accounts for ALL timezones.
That means to find 5 other people who play the exact times you do on a game that is 14 years old wont be easy.
Field of Bones in my opinion is one of best possible starting spots for leveling, then you get Kurns - you will find groups there, and usually someone being powerleveled so you may swing some nice buffs too.
Lowbie group areas are as follows (in my opinion)
East Commonlands Orc 1 7-12
Greater Faydark Orc Hill 5-10
Kurns Tower - 8-18
Oasis 14-22 (Orc Highway 18-24)
Crushbone - 7-18
Unrest 16-35
There are plenty of other places to level but those are your most likely to find others to group with.
I would also suggest finding a leveling guild (nothing else I have done in P99 has been as helpful as finding a large leveling guild - groups, ports, info, help - hands down must for a new player)

When Kunark came out they gave so much love to Iksars and leveling that they forgot to let them wear plate armor.
But honestly you really never need to leave the island of kunark its absolutley incredible for xp and groups.

Well I've yet to see another player but it could be an anomaly. It's a little rude to say I'm not looking hard enough tho. There are no people in the zone, its pretty cut and dry.

Thank you for this! That's actually quiet helpful. I leveled to 4 solo but never zoned into kurns. I'm still brand new so I'm not sure on what class I want to play yet either. You think the healers and ench are more needed for leveling groups?

I am a necro (king of needing very little to be happy) But in terms of groups - no group survives without heals (Cleric is best at this - especially end game) and every single caster wants crack - not only do they want it but more mana = more pulls = more xp = everybody wins.
Of course tanks are the side of the holy trinity everyone needs also, but being new is hard because they are super gear dependent.

Problem with static groups is that its hard to keep momentum going. I ran with a group for a while through the lower levels grouping twice a week which worked well for a bit, but as soon as somebody or a key class couldn't make it two or three times in a row it fell apart quite quickly.
My advice would be to find pick up groups and /friend those you enjoy playing with and over the course of a few levels put groups together with them as you see them online - that way you'll soon determine who plays around the same time as you and who is levelling at your pace.

I agree with Dalven, what happens if you only play with certain people and then the tank quits or the cleric has real life issues come up. Group is dead in the water and you have to decide do you pass your buddy or wait for him.
Get in a guild, you will find you play with similar people with similar play times just by the natures of your play style.
For me, Im new to server and have played with the same cleric quite a bit these first couple weeks.

I've been slowly leveling an Iksar shaman and I always saw groups in FoB, Kurns, and Warslik's Woods. I recently started duoing stuff in LOIO and that place usually has like 5 groups going at once.

Knights Who Say Ni is a great leveling guild. Accepts all levels, and very well populated.

I'm looking for a group, level 6-8ish, around CB and GFay. I'm having a hard time finding groups because nobody wants a Ranger, and I can understand why. I don't have much in the way of equipment, but I have the basics, Silver Swiftsword, 55HP rings, and full banded.

Ni !
and Necro is kinda slow early on. I found it to spend up around at lvl 12 when I ventured into Kurns. I got more bone chips than my bags could hold and 8 lvls. I can't recommend Kurns enough for a young necro.
Also its entirely possible to undead fear kite there. The back corner by the zoneline and the bridge on the second floor are good spots.

Um, thats far more than anyone has starting out in EQ classic, just saying.
God in 1999 you would probably be slapped upside the head for calling 55hp rings nothing. And banded was the shiz, if you had that you were set.
Anyhow, enough of that. Its not the gear....its the class.
The life of the ranger is a hard one, cant sugar coat it for you. Only the strong will survive and even then most of them dont make it.
But if you do make it, you will be rewarded with 2 of the best looking epics in the game.
And a LOT of corpse runs

Well someone gave me the rings while I was grinding skeletons in WFP, and the bone chips I farmed got me enough plat for the sword and banded. Thank God the sword was cheap, as most Ranger equipment seems to be.
