Does anyone know for sure what the maximum length for a /surname is?
Thanks in advance.

There might be a limit when you manually enter it with /surname (maybe 14, 16 characters?), but a GM can definitely extend that a little bit

According to this thread (http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/archive/index.php/t-26999.html) it was 18 on live in 2006.
But I cannot vouch for its correctness or if it applies to classic or P99.

Eighteen characters is the maximum length.
When you use the command "/surname XYZ" a verification window pops up with YES/No buttons showing you what the surname will look like after truncation if needed. I didn't know that before. So I did some testing without setting my surname.
Thanks guys for your input.

Once had a bard named Gonorrhea. GMs changed it to Renameme. I petitioned for it to be changed, nothing happened and next time I logged back in his name was "Renameme Petitionthenameyouwant". I left it like that for 10 levels cause I liked it till I sold the char on forums and never saw him again. Guessing the new owner had it changed.
