So, I was helping out some newbs late last night in Unrest and I couldn't help but notice all the trains that kept coming to the entrance. I thought they were pretty damn bit but then, in a fit of nostalgia I remembered my first Necromancer Newtman getting rolled in Unrest from what I remember to be gargantuan trains.

After marinating that thougt in about 4 beers I decided I'd seen some gooder trains in my lifetime and wanted to know what your experience was with trains of legendary status.

What zone has the most legendary trains in the game? Barring the level of the enemy as a function of intensity what zone has the highest chance of train-making fuckery. Also, share your war stories or body counts so we can all lol at other peoples' expenses.

Crushbone has the most trains, I think. Plenty in Mistmoore too.

CoM has the potential for the biggest and ugliest.

I used to root things at the bottom of Blackburrow on live, run up to the top and wait for the train. Would usually give me 20-40 minutes worth of solid, uninterrupted levelling time once I zoned back in.

I was the Khmer Rouge of western Antonica when I was 14.

CoM seems to get some pretty nice trains here with all the people soloing up above. I witnessed a really nasty one clearing out people slowly but surely wandering back to the castle.

I agree that Unrest is still the measuring stick against which all trains are compared, when you hear someone scream "CRAP - Festering Hag to Zone" - with the whole basement following :)

Bad place to get trains is in Uguk as well. If you head over to the elevated walkway near the fungus area, you can agro from below and start a massive train that takes a few minutes to get to you.

Best part: 10 Froglok Shamans are a taster of what's to come.

Also, Dvinn should be the certified-train logo. Need someone with PS skills for that.

Idk if its worse to get them from the temple where they warp through the floor or whether the upstairs takes the cake. Either way, when you see a Reaver in the pack you know you dun goofed.

Non classic, Fungus Grove AE groups. This server i would say KC trains are more frequent and obv mobs are higher level. I love starting giant trains in Sol B on my monk when the zone is dead !

Biggest train I've seen on p99 in a leveling zone has to be the one I made in lower guk.

At ghoul lord, calmed everything and then rooted one, ran all the way to live side's King room with necro tricks, aggro a mob then gate to the normal entrance from Uguk and wait for it to get close.

I would remove Raid zones from this as a Raid Group is much more capable of handleing a train than say a single person or a single group.

For my money Black Burrow trains were the worst especially because the run back from Qeynos always sucked at a melee and there is really no escape.

In Unrest its not all that difficult to be in the main room and hear train and make it out.

If you are leveling in BB and hear train you have to run past half a dozen mobs just to maybe make it out. Higher likelyhood of death I feel.

P99 however lacks the BB population that CB has so that may have died with classic

Plane of Growth when the zone-in aggro bug was happening.

You'd zone in to a pristine, beautiful landscape. Nothing but rolling hills for miles, as far as the eye could see.

Take two steps and it's shitfuck bearclaw giant treant hate-rape from virtually every mob in the zone. If you had bard speed or Cheetah, you could get out of cast/root range and create an epic, epic zone-crashing train.

I thought these were dungeon trains, pretty sure OT is not and technically Unrest is an outdoor zone based on SoW being castable and its more of a mansion than a dungeon. The planes are mostly outdoor as well.

That decides it BlackBurrow Wins.

By the SoW standard, BlackBurrow is also outdoors. The basement of Unrest is quite dungeon-y.

Pasi's Top Zones to Train.

A few notes:
The best zones to train are one that have people in them. Whats the point of training if dozens of people are not witnessing the beauty of your train? Additionally, I've never been a huge fan of rez box training. Whats the point of training if you are not going to stick around to blame it on the asian guild that can barely speak English?

#2 - Velketor's Labyrinth
My favorite trains were not necessarily the largest trains, but trains that contained mobs that had absolutely no business being trained to zone in.

Velketor's Labyrinth is perfect for this. It is very easy to train Velketor to zone in. You can pretty much invis all the way to right past kobold village and then train through Velketor. Behind Velketor's throne is an invisible wall that is a one-way drop off to Crystal Eyes.

The train won't be massive, but it is hilarious due to the fact that there is absolutely no doubt that the train was intentional - no one accidentally aggros Velketor the Sorceror on the way to camp X or from camp Y. Due to him being a wizard, he's also not too deadly of a train mob so people can usually escape and have a giggle.

Spaceman on Project1999 - There was a time in Luclin where we rounded up something like 50 Kodiaks from the caves of Great Divide and 15 minute druid snared each one of them at the Velketor's Lab zone in. The druid snare ensured the Kodiaks would not path back. Then, one of us trained Velketor and castle around in Velketors. The people who chose to flee the zone were met by a sleuth of level 40 Kodiaks looking for a meal.

#1 - Bastion of Thunder

Bastion of Thunder (BoT) was probably my favorite zone to train. Two reasons for this. 1) It was the most popular exp zone. 2) The zone out/zone in was not the area people hung out at. There was a safe room where people AFKd because no one would conceivably bring a mob there.

A talented team of trainers would have one person round up the Earth Wing and Fire (Lightning) Wing and bring a 80 mobs to the 'safe' room via having someone in the saferoom heal through the ground then DA. While this was going on, another person would round up the Water Wing and train the zone in. The net effect was everyone dying with the zone out being even more dangerous than the 'safe' room. The beauty of it all was blaming a trap for breaking your invis and causing such a 100+ mob train.

In a time crunch, will add more zones later if this thread is still alive.

I only wish there was video to share with you.

If you zoned in first, you could see the mobs just full-on hauling ass towards you from pretty much every direction once you moved out of the little zone-in area. That in itself is a little disconcerting.

However, if you zoned in second and the first person died near the zone-in...oh god.

You know that little glitch where if a mob is super close to you, the volume spikes? Well, imagine there's so many mobs in one area that there's at least a dozen mobs standing on the same pixel you are. There's a couple treants, a few bears, a couple wisps, some horses and a few of those totem pole undogo fuckers.

Now, imagine zoning in to this situation. There's a single, jet-engine-loud burst of various combined combat sounds and before you know it, you're already zoning back to Kael or wherever you were bound with the last crackling of an angry treant still destroying your ears.

It was...something.

Lol - the volume spike is the most scary thing around because it is usually preceded by complete silence.

I also remember Ogres blocking the main exit to SolB and having monks fd train the ZI with Bats and Bugs. Usually only 10 but there would be a body or 6 lying around afterwards.

This doesn't compete with some of the epic planar trains or shenanigans detailed above, but I once made a pretty big train in Permafrost, quite accidentally. I was playing my ranger in pre-Kunark, exping with a guild group. We were back in one of the far reaches of the goblin area... I arrowed a gob and it ran the wrong way. I said something like, "that might be trouble..." and a good minute or two later the train finally found its way to us. I knew we were fucked and I just laughed as it came barreling toward us... even had the presence of mind to take a screenshot as I bore the brunt of it. The screenshot is long gone, but it always gave me a laugh when I'd stumble across it... just a wall of angry blue faces and flailing arms.

When that same ranger was a wee noob in Blackburrow, I formed the hypothesis that the "trains" other players were shouting about were an intentionally coded mechanism of organized counter-attack. I didn't yet understand that when a mob fled from you its agro would transfer or it would get healed and come back for another round. My framerate was pretty terrible, so quite often I'd lose track of a fleeing gnoll, give up the chase and attack another...

on Tallon Zek, i started an ikky monk alt and was waiting near the bank for a guildee to do some selling of the gears for me. There was a bard in the zone but no one could keep up with him (evil race didnt have anything close to bard speed). then i kept seeing messages like "WHERE R ALL THE MOBS AT"

Long story short, he pulled OT - i mean the ZONE OT. Vendors, scorpion men from the canyon, undead guards, and ran it straight into the bank. This was 56k days so I crashed out as soon as I saw it but it's by 1000x the biggest train I've ever seen in EQ.

That necro that paths just above the double doors is a nightmare.

I once decided I knew what I was doing and tried to pull past the door when he pathed out of view. I didn't realize it until about 5 minutes later when brown skeletons starting fisting me that I had the whole zone on me. Tried to run but:

I can imagine someone dragging a pet from a deeper camp up to near the entrance, and a bard coming along and Highsunning it... that would be a massive, fun train :D

I've done something similar in Runnyeye. Dragged the king up to the zone in, Highsunned him and sat down, he brought the whole zone up with him on the way up.

I remember in 2000 being trained at Mistmoore Entrance. I was hunting there at 18 with a group and somebody brought the whole castle down on us. I was playing as my Paladin and the Mistmoore Ambassador charms me as everyone was beating on me... Being charmed in EQ is perhaps one of the scariest player moments I've ever had. Only had it happen with am Emperor Fae Drake and later on the Sphinx in RM since then...

Charmed, she drags me into the castle and recharms me as we were going up the ramp after it broke. We got almost to the room they were originally from when it breaks and some gargs killed me. :/

At that point I had no friend that was 30+. I nice Wizard went in invis and pulled my corpse out.

The best trains I've experienced were those that involved 2 rival guilds in ToV. They may not be the most inspiring for mob count, but nothing is more satisfying then seeing an entire rival raiding guild being vanquished by 20 wyverns and then zoning back in to stand on their corpses and /dancing.

Never really played through Velious but Ele's pic was awesome. Shit is gonna be awesome.

Oh and I too have personally been charmed and recharmed only it was by the named evil eyes in Runnyeye. I can verify that feels of fear.
