I want to hear your sad stories of the height of your addiction, if ever.

Mine would be in 2000. I was in 8th grade and I used to print out the complete spell list and bring it to school and dream about reaching those levels. I also used to get up an hour early to play from 6-7am before class. It was also the first time I stayed up all night to play.

I even installed EQ in my journalism class and played during downtime and got classmates to play. Lol. I was obsessed and it was sad lol.

I remember being at my grandma's sleeping on couch [This was age 12 or something] and telling myself that 20+ is going to be really slow for exp but all my friends had to do it, I know I can!!

Day 1 of logging into EQ I left the good old counter strike and tribes 1 behind. Anyone remember those games? Each one addicting in their own right...

Anyways, I first made a high elf enchanter and after an hour or so of figuring out how to get things going my first target was a real life player, some dwarf. I assumed he was just another NPC I could kill but NOPE. It shocked me how fast I died. He put me in my place pretty quickly. After I got cursed out from him in tells, I made a dark elf and never looked back <evil grin>.

CS 1.6 is pretty fun still. Lots of people still play it.

Tribes on the other hand.. Jesus fucking christ was that game good. I still play Tribes 2 and Tribes Ascend. That shit is amazing.

Ah yes, I too played original tribes and CS before discovering EQ. Very few games capture the satisfaction of a disc launcher hit on a flying target!

I knew I was addicted the first night I played. Couldn't unglue myself until 4am when I heard one of my parents walking through the house and jumped in bed to avoid getting in trouble.

Wow that's surprising. I checked out Ascend but it just wasn't the same. I want to say that I disliked Tribes 2 but it could just be because I was addicted to EQ ;) That's super cool that people still play though, I'm impressed.

I can one up you on that! I didn't have a computer in my room. I would sneak in just before my parents would lock up the computer room for the night (this is how addicted I was) and I'd unlock the window without them knowing. When they went to sleep I would jump out of my bedroom window from the second story and then break into my own house via computer room window and play all night. If I ever heard commotion near the doorway at night I'd sprint to the closet and hide...they never caught me! Haha, good times. :D Why am I proud of this?

My babysitter when I was younger would let me play Starsiege: Tribes while he studied. That shit was so much fun, still one of my favorite fps games to date. He's also the one that got me into EQ beta back in phase 2. It's really been a one note story since! haha

I was totally addicted to CS before I played EQ too!! I played css a ton also.

I knew I was addicted when I started getting the shakes and cold sweats when I hadn't played for 12 hours.. man that shit was bad.

I just busted up laughing after reading this!! That is hilarious and totally reminds me of gaming when I was a kid also.

loved tribes. Played ascend for a while. Just love the fast pace. Flag chasing/capturing.

Quake 2 was also money.

When i was 13, my dad came into my computer room when he woke up late at night and caught me hiding under a couch with the computer screen off in an attempt to escape his notice. He grounded me the entire summer from eq, 3 fn months.

I was an athlete, came from an athlete family, and none of them ever understood my obsession with games. To this day. /emo off :(

Dude, disc kills mid air are da beez neez, I lived for light armor defense and flag chasing. I miss those fast pace games for sure. SIGH memories.

It's okay Fael, I had to deal with that type of BS also, you aren't alone!!

To this day I still listen to classic EQ music in my car driving to work...

Also, I was mid chardok raid a few months after kunark release, some guy smashed into a telephone pole outside, i ran outside and basically ran the scene at 15 years old just to get the ball rolling faster and things cleaned up so the electric company could get the power working again... lol

Got caught shop lifting when I was 17. Parents gave me a choice, lose EQ forever or give up my '88 Camaro...

I kept the car but I thought about it for a minute! Man that sucked! As soon as I had my own place I started playing again.

Spring of 03. Was at work or school and had a thought/desire to play a game when I got home (not EQ). 3 hours of EQ later after I got home i remember I didn't want to play EQ that day and wanted to play whatever other game it was.

Realized that something wasn't right being so habitual to log in and play like that. Quit cold turkey that day.

I remember doing the old "wake up two hours early so I can game, even though I went to bed 2 hours late" gig. I also remember waking up to play in the middle of the night, and thinking it was so exhilarating, how many players were still online....I thought that was sooo cool.

I performed a couple of weddings with my cleric back in the day. Nothing I ever planned to do, people I grouped with would just ask.

Have never seen this on p99 but I remember it being pretty common on live. Guess the demographic that plays here can't reach that immersion level.

I knew I was addicted when that day came that I had played for such an extended period that when I wanted to tell my brother something (who was in another room of the house at the time) my first thought was

/tell Nick

Yea... Forced myself to step away from EQ for a bit after that moment.

I'd have to say I have alot of those similar kid stories considering I was 8 when EQ came out, but I think I really knew, and my dad knew what he had done, when we camped Najena for close to 48 hours for jboots. :O

For me it was the moment that I shouted in zone " I am going to Disney Land " and left for California 2 days later. All of this after finally killing Ragefire, obtaining my epic and camping him for 3 days. The best part was that an FOH cleric tried to claim it and they failed! We had the guild exping in the zone 24/7 for 3 days and my little blue book on hand with phone numbers. ( No texting back then ) =)

From the moment I saw my friend playing it.

I grew up playing RPGs both turn based and real time, I spent untold hours in games maximizing my characters and looking for every advancement and best combination possible. I think max stats and credits was all that got me to conclude a game. In addition to a fixation with stats I loved lore. I read my friend's parent's old monster manuals and dungeon master guides and wished that more of our other friends were interested in playing some tabletop games.

I played, I killed a bat, I got xp and something to sell for money, I was hooked. Later on it was drooling about the spells at higher levels, it was crazy pvp fights, raid progression. Pretty much new levels of addiction all the time. I have a lot of tales like everyone else. Playing all night, hiding from parents to play all night (often not even my own).

My only classic/kunark All nighter was camping that robe in dalnir for my necromancer. I collect robes and i believe that one was the final piece i needed. Took all night and 8am in the morning it finally dropped!

Another all nighter or 48 hour benge was when GoD released (i think) whenever the level cap was raised by 5 levels anyway... I was a monk on Stromm and when the day it released 6 of us rushed into Plane of fire and went to tables. It was non-stop pulling, no time to eat RL food only had a 10min break to take a crap! Went from 60-64 there wasn't strong enough to get to 65 and had to goto sleep.

Only other time i can recall doing something similar was during the Progression server was happening. Our guild (realm of insanity) unlocked PoP and were waiting for a GM to release the content to the server and when they finally got around to doing so it was a rush to the best EXP spots in the planes. My group decied to hit Plane of valor i think and killed those annoying crystal spiders. Needless to say most of the guild was 65 within 2 days or so and started our masterful unlocking progression through the content. Good times.

When I played on live I was the quarterback on the middle school football team. my friend down the street always wanted to play catch and he kept trying to call my house (56k days) so he knocked on my door one day when there was a huge pandemonium twink battle in EC/Nek/WC (TZ on live) i remember camping out, running outside, throwing his football across the street into the pond, then running back inside without actually ever talking to him
