Coming from EQ what is DAoC gonna be like? Whats different? The same? Terminology that I won't understand? Anything would help really.

Also does anyone play there?

Logged into the free emu server, apparently it starts you in a newbie guild. People were really helpful, friendly. Still tho if anyone has stuff to add lemme know.

DAoC is good stuff, but I like things that came after the "classic" time period. So I quit Uthgard.

Group questing is cool because if you need to collect drops from a mob for a quest, everyone in group gets the drop if they are on the quest. So you don't need to kill stuff, especially named, a bunch of times till everyone gets it.

Also when you die you leave a tombstone instead of a corpse. Pray at the tombstone to recover some lost exp.

Just a couple differences I can remember.

Uthgard is the best it gets when it comes to DAoC. I haven't played there in a while so I'm not sure if they fixed some fundamental stuff like bolt spells or not but it's still good stuff.

DAoC classic is literally the best time period in MMO history. Shrouded Isles is 100% fact the best expansion ever made for an MMO. It introduced new content, new races, new classes, a whole ton of shit that didn't unbalance or phase out previous content.

With that all said, Trials of Atlantis ruined that winning streak haha If you're gonna stick with it Useful lemme know, I might load that shit back up. You playing Albion, Hib, or Mid? I sunk about 7 years into my Nightshade and Bard back in the day.

DAOC is what made me quit Everquest, well that and Luclin. Classic DAOC was a ton of fun.

Uthgard is good but some of it is woefully incomplete. Bonedancers are still barely implemented, necromancers I'm not sure are implemented at all, spiritmancer pets are incomplete, savage hand to hand is bugged, and many many mobs are generic melee mobs lacking any abilities or spells they're supposed to have which is annoying if you played a charm class like sorcerer on live and try to replicate what you did back then. On the plus side, on Uthgard you can charm mobs that weren't charmable on live...

Those are just the problems I remember, and some might be fixed by now. I'm not sure why the server is as incomplete as it is. Project 1999 puts it to shame in terms of completeness and replicating the classic game.

There was also (and still may be) this very annoying "8v8 only" culture on the server. DAOC is about realm vs realm, taking keeps, taking relics, taking back Darkness Falls etc. but for some reason a lot of people were only interested in meaningless 8v8 and woe be to anyone who dared interfere or join in.

I tried Uthgard for an evening. It felt unbelievably clunky and slow and awful to play now.
