They dropped it like a bad habit in the early 1990s. So while it was created 50 years ago, there's been dark spots.

Call me miserable, but the new brand of Doctor Who launched about 10 years ago with its low budget CGI looked horrible, and my enjoyment comes more from watching the old doctors at work.

Kids love it, good for them. My ex's little boy (was 5 at the time) used to love the old ones more than the new ones.
