If you had 3k to start a rogue, what would you buy?

Hey all!

My very first character in eq was a rogue, and I loved it! But for some reason I stopped playing it and never picked it back up again. So I decided to make my first real "alt" and create another rogue.

I haven't made a whole lot of money in my travels, so like the title says I have about 3k to spend on this little guy. For starters I bought a set of banded armor and had some iksar scaled gloves lying around, so he has that for armor.

I know weapons will be the real chunk of the money, so I guess that's what I really need advice on. I got a really good deal on a jade mace so I bought that, but I can always sell it if you guys think the budget could be better used elsewhere. I bought it for 1.6k so I currently have about 1.4k to spend. I know the jade mace is just an offhand wep, but its also great for leveling at the moment while im single wielding. Should I try and trade it for a trak?(if I can find the right buy/sell price) then I would need a decent offhand as well I spose.

Give me your opinions wise and knowledgable rogues! I will value the information :)

What race are you going to play? I know hero bracers are still quite cheap/easy to pick up (or quest), but barbarians can't wear them.

I went with a barb. I could have sworn barbs could wear hero bracers though!

So it would probably be a smart move to sell the jade mace when I get dual wield/maybe at level 10 when I can backstab and try to use that plat toward a nice piercer. It seems like getting anything with 10+ damage as a piercer means it is going to cost upwards of 2.5k

The Locustlure looks like a really nice ratio, but would traks be better for the higher damage backstabs? If anyone has a traks to sell I will buy it!!

I can see why the rogue epic is so desired.. It's WAAAY better than anything that drops, I mean not even close!

5/55's is kinda standard for any new character.

Tree weave, hero bracer, sarnak mask, rusty spiked shoulder pads, dwarven work boots, +3 str earrings, crested helm, erollsi bracer, iksar scaled gloves, bone armplates, kylong legs, werewolf cloak, troll skin belt.

All affordable items with good str.

IMO, resell the Jade Mace. Try to get something like a trak tooth for a good price, then maybe a green jade broadsword for offhand and spend the rest on 5/55 and other gear recommended by justin2090.

I have a couple of items that my rogue has grown out of to hook you up with, just look for Kutsuu or Neverest in game.

I agree! I just hope I can find a trak tooth for sale. Also, are green jade broadswords usable by rogues? I thought the css was the "rouge equivalent"

Hmmm. For a rogue I'm gonna have to say manastone.

You say, why manastone?

One of my favorite stories I've heard in EQ was the one about the ogre warrior who's friend wanted but couldn't afford a manastone. So the ogre warrior did what any good friend would do, bought one, ran up to said friend and clicked himself to death then asked for a rez.

Just hit level 13 and got dual wield! Woot! :)
I've been using the jade mace, and some cheap piercer.. I forget the name but its 6/18, not a bad ratio but pretty low damage. I'm trying to get a better piercer and just continue using the jade mace in my offhand. But so far so good!

The only problem with that is that JM is worth 2k and rapier is worth 7k. Otherwise sounds like a solid plan.
