Logged in this evening to the highest total I've seen on P1999 so far, 837!

If you build it, they will come...

For years I have seen all the naysayers. "nobody wants classic" "it will suck blah blah blah Rose tinted glasses" and so on and so forth.... I knew if someone built it they would come.

New high population count tonight. It was 875, and now 884 :D

You can always check average population, and high count on eqemulator.

Good number of people not too many, not too less. I still recall old world EQ wth 2000 people on Sunday nights... Gah.

When we break 1k people online at one time, everyone who is online at the time should get a free level on one of there toons :)

Yeah but back then there wasn't such a large concentration of people at max level.

Almost anytime i needed a gm yet at least one was online. Much more than i regognize in live, and they doing better jobs (for free!) .

Nice to see how the population keeps growing :)

Just out of interest, how many people can the server handle before it runs into problems? Could it handle 2000 like the old live servers did?

While we're shooting questions at server staff: how's the backup situation in case a meteor hits your house? :D

Old live servers were made in 1999.. Compare possible technologies available then and now. HUGE difference.. I know I first played EQ on a Dual PPro/200. That was somewhat decent hardware for its time.

Now, dedicated hosted servers doing serious stuff should be running quad cores or core i7's.

My satisfaction with the GM's is at least 1000 times more than that of the GM's back on Live. Still, I was on three nights in a row at peak hours, two nights with no GM's on to answer my [extremely important] petition, and one night a GM was on but he didn't respond (even when I sent him a direct tell - I know this is wrong but I was desperate!)

I basically can't play the game until a GM logs on coincidentally at the same time as me. I just assumed there'd be at least one online while 800+ people were on.

you should use forum petition section not ingame petitions.

Word of mouth + viral is why this is occurring. I heard about this on Reddit and I told my friends. Now 5 of us are playing.

Indeed, I was playing EQ2, was kinda new to it, kinda playing with a 'ho hum' attitude..

Then someone in chat mentioned this in the course of 'old EQ chatting'.
Now I'm here, wife joined, friend joined, and son might too.

Kinda funny on my son's part, he always wanted to play EQ with us 'back in the day' - but he was young then. Few years later and WoW burn-out and he'll get a chance now :)

And I'm STILL having tons more fun than with any of the 'new' MMOs, and I tried a LOT of them.

WoW, AoC, DDO, LoTRO, Shayia (however it's spelled), Perfect World, Warhammer, EQ2, Vanguard... might be forgetting one or two.

And NONE comes close to classic EQ, in all honesty.

Thanks again Nilbog and others!

Tbh, there is something relaxing in all that mindless grinden. I turn off volume (although MIDI tunes are awsome :D ), turn on the radio, listen to my favourite radio show and enjoy.

Aye - this is quite an amazing find. I only just learned about it last week and have since re-recruited two of my old "EQ Live" friends to play with the potential of a couple more friends joining.

I do wish that it was possible to run the game with the "classic" brown Necromancer skeleton pets ;-)

Necros had white pets on Live up till Level 24 just like it is on P1999. Different texture/model though, I know. I also prefer the look of the old style pets. The new ones look too much like Necrons from WH40K.

Oh, I am quite aware of that :) I was merely whining a little that I am just going to have to accept that current blackish ones that are used from 24 and upwards. They do sort of look like they have a very thin sheet of crispy fried blackened flesh over their bones... as I recall on Live after they changed the models all of the Necro pets 1, 4 ... through the level 56 Monk pet used the same "new" whitish grey model (albeit the lower level ones weren't as tall as the later level ones) until 59 with the first pet to use the Spectre model. It was one of the sadder moments I experienced in EQ :-/

Yeah the zone-specified ooc feels very good to me now that we are at this level. There is always somebody in a given zone available to answer questions or give minor direction/help.

However I admit I do normally play during peak hours.

This is the exact reason to not go with the popular crowd vote, and just do what you know is right. If we had left it up to the vote of the masses we'd have boxing, and global OOC, and the game would be just like every other EQ emu (PEQ). The population, and community would likely reflect them too.

Will be a day to pull out some of Tumpy's best when we finally hit 1k people!

With the population the server has now a global OOC would be completely untenable. It was fun and helpful when we had 80 players on but for 800+ it just won't work.

Go Go Classic EQ!
