HQ bear skin drop rate too low?

I have killed countless kodiaks in the commonlands (along with young kodiaks and black bears, but I hunt kodiaks mostly) and not one HQ skin has dropped. I've gotten plenty of thick, ruined and medium skins, so many I don't even loot them now. It feels like the HQ drop rate is less than 1%.

I definitely do not remember the drop rate being this low on live. I used to actually make some pp on my low level characters by selling the HQ bear skins I found in the commonlands while I was hunting wisps for GLS. Here I've killed way more bears than I ever did on live and not one drop.

Just looted 2 in the past hour. Wasn't even hunting them on purpose, just whacking them as I ran by.

Hmm. I've hunted for days now and had backpacks full of low and medium quality but not one HQ drop.

I'm wondering if kodiaks here aren't the best type of bear to hunt for HQ. That's what I killed on live for them though.

I didn't even know Kodiaks dropped HQ bear skin. I thought only Black Bears did.

I picked up about a dozen going from 1-5 in everfrost on my barb about a month or two ago killing polar bear cubs. Drop rate probably tied to bear type.

Been a bit since I was last in EC (6-8 months), but I tended to get about 2-3 per week (4-6 hours of play).

Back on the live servers, the drop rate was about 1 in 30, or around 3%. The rate on black bears seems about right. Not sure about other bears.

Gotten lots of HQ in EC, WC, Nektulos, and Rathe Mts. OP is just an unlucky SOB. :D

I did bears in the perma bits last month....last 3 bubs of 55...all 56, 57, 58 then the first bub of 59.

Got 4 HQ bear skins.

On this server I was killing lots of tigers/lions for a couple levels.

If the formula is related, I can attest, I got very few high quality. Drop rate was pretty damn low.

So I don't think you are doing things wrong, OP. They just have the server keyed properly, imo. Rares = rares, no?

I guess I'm just extremely unlucky. Haven't seen one HQ bear skin drop in all the time I've played here. Not one.

My question is why do you still farm pelts two years after starting? :)

All jokes aside, it does seem like a very low drop rate.
