View Full Version : Suggestion for a Progressive Event

I’ve read many proposals of people asking for a server reset or a new server, and I’ve realized one of the reasons they are probably asking for this is to make the dash for first kills all over again.

Well, I don’t want a server reset, so I came up with this idea that might give that dash feeling again, without a server reset or a new server.

So, what I’m going to propose is a progressive event in the current server.

Here’s how it would work:

All characters with level above 10 would be blocked, and no one would be allowed to level beyond level 10.

To unblock this, the server community would have to kill predetermined targets, much like what happens on progressive live servers. Once this is achieved, the blockage is moved to level 20, and new targets announced, and repeat until the server is back to normal.

Here’s a list of possible targets:

Level 10:
- Dorn B`Dynn – NR
- Glubbsink - BBM
- Tranixx Darkpaw – BB
- Errrak Thickshank – KI
- Slayer Captain – IS
- Carrion Queen – FoB

Level 20:
- The Froglok Warden – UG
- Lockjaw – Oasis
- Trazdon – Najena
- The Goblin King – CR
- Mortuary Fungus – Unrest
- Ambassador DVinn - CB
- Bargynn- KT

Level 30:
- King Xorbb – BM
- Verishe Mal Executioner – Splitpaw
- Tae Ew Archon – CT
- Inferno Goblin Captain – Sol A
- Bilge Farfathom DC
- Soothsayer Dregzak – Temple of Droga

Level 40:
- The ghoul arch magus – LG
- Quag Maelstrom – OT
- Black Dire –MM
- Oculys Ogrefiend - RM
- Wraith of Jaxion – COM
- Froglok Forager - TT

Level 50:
– Lady Vox - Permafrost
- Lord Nagafen - Solb
- Phinigel Autropos - KK
- Cazic Thule - Fear
- Innoruuk – Hate
- Venril Sathir – KC

Sounds kinda fun, but would suck for the new people who are then blocked from leveling up their new chars to their hearts content or those who are trying to build up a farming character to then start real mains with.

I could be misinterpretting you, but if a special flag could be added to characters that people are using to participate in this which acted kind of like the PVP flag. Where it prevents beneficial spells from being cast on players by non-flagged players that would be kind of fun. I'm sure people would still figure out how to get their non-flagged characters to assist the flagged characters (take mobs down to low HP then zone to let the flagged people finish it off, for example).

With this p99 crowd this event wouldn't last more than a week, if that much. :D

My bet is the first block would be lifted in less than 24 hours. Don't think new players would suffer that much. They even could enjoy the dash for first kills with their brand new main characters.

If there were high levels present, this event would be ruined in my opinion. Logging in high level characters during this event would have to be a big no-no.

Don't see what the problem is, I don't seem to remember this happening on classic?

Events are Classic.

OP's post has potential... the only problem with it is it interferes with the daily running of the server. Imagine the steam coming out of TMO raiders eyes when they're told they can't poopsock Mob X. Or the casual player who just wanted to log in for a couple of hours and get a level on his cleric who is now blocked :p

You could do this event with little to no help from the developers or GM/Guides if you wanted to. Simply flag all participating players for PvP. This will help thwart attempts from high levels to buff/PL the participants and we can easily identify them. :p You would just have to witness all the kills yourself and only allow PvP flagged players under the "level cap" (honor system here on participants) to participate or the kill doesn't count.

It would be cool if a GM could un-flag the participants after the event though. :o

You'd also have bragging rights with your new 50 toon that leveled as pvp on a carebear server.

The way I see it, all events interfere with the daily running of the server in one way or another. That's why they are events, and it's not like this would go on forever. It would take less than a DDos attack. In the past, the server has been down for longer periods and we all lived. The difference here is we would still be able to play the game and get our fix.

Sure, you wouldn't be allowed to poopsock Mob X for a bit, but, on the other hand, you would have at your disposal a myriad of brand new raid targets, classic targets, that have never been looked like this before.

Regading PVP, I don't think it's a good idea. I wouldn't like the GMs to have to police the event like that, and high characters would always find ways to interfere.

Obviously, this could also be adopted to red server and have some sort of PVP, but the idea is for this to be an event with no pvp. Even training tactics would be frowned upon. ;)

This would be a new way to crack up an encounter for the first time, instead of just following tactics someone wrote up 14 years ago.

Think about it.

No, thank you.

What about that level 10 over there with the mad lootz that nearly trivialize all that content?

Sounds like a blast, but I think we've progressed beyond this.

How hard is it to start up a server? If Abacab and Toop can do it, I'm sure most of us could :p

+1.

Like any other event, this one could award special prices. The selected targets could drop special loot. :)
