View Full Version : A P99 case study – Hello everyone!

I am conducting a case study in P99 that focuses on players and their involvement with this project and its community, aswell as their different gaming-careers and the role Everquest had in those in the past. Therefor I am looking for people I can interview about their own experiences with P99, Classic EQ and Games/MMOs in general.

My goal is to investigate the impact Everquest had and has on different players in this community over time. I would like to talk to as many people as possible, whether you are a noob or a veteran, a dedicated developer or a casual bone-chip farmer. By collecting diverse media-biographies I aim to find patterns and commonalities that allow for a valid description of P99 as a part of contemporary (game-)culture.

A few words about myself: I am a graduate in Social and Cultural Anthropology, this project now is for my master-thesis in Media and Communication Studies. My own research focus is the effect of media (especially games) on our daily lives. I have played different computer games all my live, including EQ from 1999 to about 2003 and EQ2 from 2005 to 2008. I have tried multiple other MMOs but none as intensively as the EQ series. Right now I am Raurackl, a 39 Shaman on P99 Blue.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me via PMs or in game. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, if you agree to an interview I would be even happier. I am planning each interview to last at least one hour, ultimately it depends on the person being interviewed thou. If you think everything is said after 30mins that’s that, if you like to discuss these issues for longer it’s even better for me.

I hope we meet, and sorry in advance for all the silly questions.

Raurackl

Young doctor thread brings the funnies

Bro I worked for SOE for years

You don't need a master's degree in whatever to know that people who play this game at the level people played and have played here on P99 are totally fucked in the head

Myself included

Back in live, I was known as an unstoppable force. One day, a gnome had a tinkered steam shovel and he dared me to a contest. Me and that steam shovel dug and dug and dug.

And that is where the Hole came from.

And I died with a sarnak warhammer in my hand, lawd lawd, with a sarnak warhammer in my hand.

i'd be willing to get interviewed. but only if i get a copy of your paper!

as my post count suggests, i've been quite immersed. my EQ resume is as follows:

started when i was 15 or so, in highschool. played all summer, day and night. when i got to college i made myself stop, so i could be social (also EQ gear was getting too "uber" for me)

played rallos, vallon, tallon (switched for item loot as they changed servers) finally peaked on sullon. came back after awhile, leveled a 80 or 85 ranger on pvp server. started hearing about emu server, scorned it for awhile.. till vztz. then vztz 1.0 not serious, just nostalgia. more serious on vztz 2.0 and 3.0, then r99 when vztz shut down.

through the later years i was attending law school and almost got kicked out, twice. barely made it out. PM me and i'll sit down and have a beer and chat

But seriously, my wife founded eqwidows. Not that nutcase who took it over, the one who had an obviously disturbed kid, Liz Woolsey.

Eqwids was before that. Old school wife aggro.

Hah! Some of my wife's "fondest" memories are of me ditching her / skipping dates because of Kunark/Velious raids. For some reason she still married me.
