Hey all, need some help here.
Long story short:
My cousin's laptop is malware'd out the wazoo and he's clueless with PCs so I want to remote into his computer to clean it up.
He's in St. Louis and I'm in Atlanta so I need a way to get into his PC over the internet.
I'm pretty computer savvy but have never remoted into a PC before. Could anyone explain the steps I'd take?
I was guessing I'd get him to go to whatsmyip... and use that to RDC in; but I wasn't sure if whatsmyip would give his router IP or his actual PC IP. Any help here would be wondrous.
Thanks in advance! :D

easiest way i can think of is go setup a account at logmein.com. have your cousin install and put in your info and it will load on his computer then you can access it. I use logmein on a bunch of friends and families pc to help them when they get viruses and such. Only ever used RDC on my inhome network.

Teamviewr google it
I checked both out. Seems LogMeIn and Teamviewer are kind of a toss-up. Anyone know of any real differences between these? I will be using the free version of anything that I end up using.

Personally never used teamviewer as anything ive ever needed to do other then let me play EQ(wishful thinking i knew going in it wouldnt) logmein could do. Only thing i havent dealt with yet is it only allows 10 Pc's on free account and i'm at my limit. So might try out teamview next time i need to install on a PC or just make a 2nd account on logmein.

Problem is, depending on the infection, trying to fix it remotely can be pointless, as you can't boot in to safe mode. Or my favorite, yank the drive and attach to another machine.

If chrome didnt disrupt our silverlight based software I would have the remote on every pc on our network.
Although I wish I could manage the updates.
