Considering Uthgard has been in development for years and this server is brand new I highly doubt it. I was negative in my last post but I'll probably try it out at least for a little while while everyone is on an equal footing. Considering playing a Healer.

You can use the dawn of light launcher(the one used for uthgard), i copied the daoc folder to use on uthgard just to make sure but its wonky right now for me, loads to almost full but never finishes

Their own launcher is getting worked on right now

I was able to connect to Uthguard and make a Kolbold Shaman but it was really hard just moving around and clicking on doors and stuff.

Good, buff bots are stupid and bad for the game.

I played Hibernia realm from release on Lancelot server. Got a druid to 50 then one of my douchebag friends wanted to use him as a buffbot while I was at work. He gave the acct info to his guild and they passed him around like a big fat Firbolg joint. When I got the acct back he had been stripped. GMs couldn't help either, since buffbots and sharing acct info was frowned upon. Lesson learned. :(

Other than that ruining the game for me, it was the first time I enjoyed pvp (RVR) and it actually meant something. Not only was taking enemy keeps a blast but having them and relics made your realm stronger and granted access to Darkness Falls.

Tried Uthgaard but it seemed like a ghost town. Will check this out, with a healthy population could be a helluva lot of fun.

Darkness Falls.



Darkness Falls: The Crusade (Darkness Falls was the original 1 realm only FFA predecessor to DFC) was a text based MUD where the mechnism for 3 way Realm V Realm within DAoC came from. Mythic-Entertainment developed DFC and then eventually made the jump into the 3d realm with DAoC.

You had 75 levels with an exponential leveling curve past level 50 and pretty heafty XP loss on death (if you weren't rezzed) as well as losing constitution points and full loot PvP. To my knowledge only 1 person made it to level 75 in the ~6 years the game existed before it was shutdown.

But yeah, the whole idea of RvRvR with invading Keeps and stealing idols (and getting bonus' for idols) came from DFC.

best leveler is necromancer on albion. literally solo for days. shit in rvr. Cleric is 100% group dependant. you want to mix in healing and buffing line. usually its a 36buff/32heal or 44heal/28 buff for grouping. There are 3 realms, albion, midgard, and hibernia. They all have different classes. If you are going to duo with someone it's best to usually go almost all buffs and some heals. paladin has endurance chant and healing chant which makes them great tanks and necessary for melee groups in RVR. merc is best DPS.

also, best group setup in old frontiers was usually 2 clerics as a base. one ~40 ench, other high heal line. The rest of group was usually 1 minstrel for speed, sorc for CC, and 4 DPS usually 4 ice wizards for PBAE bombs or 2 merc, 1 pally, 1 reaver.

Classic DAoC was off the chain, and the PvP was unmatched. stealth class wise, Albion had the most complex and best imo. Infiltraitors were the one shot kings, and scouts were the best bow class. Midgard has the best healer, and healers solo fairly well if you went aug spec. Hibernia was always inferior, unless the pop was imbalanced. Enchanters with capped cast speed were stupid good with the obaoe spell. Animists were always broken, and could use their pets to cast through walls. I always found DAoC to have the best classes in any game, it would be worth reading up on them if you were interested. Cant emphasize enough how dope the RvR is. Building seige weapons, keep defense, relic runs, battlegrounds, I just hope the pop is legit

I started up on uthgard a few days ago so I could decide which class I would play on Origins. Darkness falls is awesome experience, soloable at lvl 15ish, and the mobs drop tokens which you can turn in for awesome gear. The only downside is the opposing factions running through at the speed of bard one shotting all the noobs. However, there is no xp loss on pvp death and there is always a rez available after your faction hears about it.

That being said, Skald (midgards bard) run speed song is extremely useful. They get other songs too but my god the run speed! I will probably play Skald on origins. It's just a must have for any xp or rvr group. And of coarse he will be a troll and wield a hammer the size of flat bed truck.

Yes mostly, but no a little.

The dungeons are sweet, not clone dungeons with cloned mobs renamed and higher level. DAoC isn't a "raiding" game in the way Everquest or WoW was. There aren't massively OP mobs you need 40 people to down, PRIMARILY at least. Darkness Falls has Legion, there are raid mobs don't get me wrong, but PvE raiding was an afterthought when you got higher level. The games focus is PvP and territory control, I can only stress to you that DAoC RvR is unique, and the way MMO PvP was meant to be. Go read ANY mmo's forums, you'll find people talking about DAoC being the best PvP, or how they miss it etc.. I assure you it's worth a shot. DAoC has click-skills like modern MMO's, but it's unlike most games where it's just a matter of who clicks all their buttons first. It's highly reactionary (skils only useable after evading, parrying, after opponent parries, evades, etc) and positional (only useable from the side, front, back etc). You have to be on your toes and sharp to fully maximize your class. Also, a lot of CA's are chained - Use skill 1, Skill 2 only useable if skill 1 landed, Skill 3 only useable if skill 2 landed.

skald is easy mode. more damage, regen song to heal up. I only play alb and I will prob make a wizard once again or a pally.

I just learned today that shadowblades can wield twohanders. A rogue class stealthing and backstabing with a two handed sword. Yes it is every bit of brutal as it sounds.

This server will be patch 1.62 so the Zerker is mega nerfed in this one. Midgard should be the strongest realm based on the patch they chose.

Housing didn't come out until Trials of Atlantis, but since player housing doesn't affect RVR, that has been included too.

Don't base it on Uthgard build.

As for class depends how you want to play. Solo you need stealth or run speed.

Shaman great in small groups and large groups but it's a very popular class, might have a lot of competition. They get endurance refresher for the group and aoe root along with dots and buffs. Powerful class.

Healer very desireable because they aoe mez and have big heals and buffs. Very complete and scary class to see in a group.

Savage great damage if you can use positional styles.

Bonedancer is easy mode caster that has aoe snare.

Lots of choices.

minstrel the closest. speed, mez, regen, power regen, insta stun, 2 dd's, melee and stealth. Problem is that he is the weakest stealther of all of them. Inf/nightshades/SB's can see him from a mile away.

necro is shit in pvp. Minstrel is almost a requirement for SOS (in combat speed and immunity to CC effects) for groups. Solo they make a nice bait for a stealth group. Usually a SB/NS will try to kill th em and they will get an insta stun off before they die. They can then mez them and heal up until stun immunity is gone. With an inf they are really nice due to the insta stun and dd's and SOS to get away if shit gets hairy.


Necro's best spec is deathsight for leveling. At 50 with a cleric Death servant is the best solo PLer in the game. PBAE spirit masters(2-3) with a healer for AE stun makes the best group experience in the game.

If the spell has a damage component, the target will take damage but be immune to the stun/snare/root or mesmerize. It breaks with any action taken except healing.

yeah... I don't remember many of the top mid/hib guilds. I just remember how OP PBAE groups in mid were.

Maelstrom was the best guild out there in the early days, I forget the hib PBAE guild though.

Honestly I want the RvR to be evenly split like 300 on each side so you have a solid force to play against. I loved it when we found out the Hibs and ALbs were going at it so we could backdoor the aggressor unchallenged then watch both of them team up to fuck us up for invading lol

If you just want to run around and solo then sorceres are pretty cool. They can charm a pet that has a 9 second stun, speed 3, have mez, root and decent damage with nukes

If you still want the stealth gameplay you could go Minstrel! Otherwise you would probably love to play Friar as they're both great in combat and serve a strong role as support.

Yeah bro stay away from a Scout as your starter class for sure, def the hardest to solo up amongst the Archer classes. Do what everyone else will be doing and pick a nice solo/grouping capable class up to 50 and then twink/trade plvl's for a Stealther class. Not too positive though with Alb, never played it.

necro's are the best solo levelers in the game. If you can make a friend with a cleric and do the Orcs camp with death servant you can PL someone 1-50 in less than a day, done it many times for plat.

no class is expensive to level, but all stealthers blow for grouping and aren't wanted in leveling groups with the exception to a minstrel(not a true stealther). Most "hardcore" leveling groups on launch will prob be either a RVR 8 man group that will be melee DPS heavy or a PBAE group (ice wizard, enchanter, spiritmaster) with 2x main healers and maybe PBT

melee 8 man alb: 2x cleric, 1x sorc, 3x armsman/merc(DPS), 1x minstrel(for speed5 and SOS), and either 1x paladin(for endurance) or another melee DPS. Pally and minstrel can be swapped for more DPS if needed

caster 8 man debuff group: 2x cleric, 1-2 cabby for spell debuff, and the rest sorcs/cabby and maybe a minstrel.


caster 8 man bomb group: 2x cleric, 1x sorc, 1x minstrel, 4x ice wizards


theurgs can be thrown into any of these groups for pets to interupt healers/casters haste/damage add, and PBT (blocks a melee attack every 3-5 seconds)

For leveling you just basically want to spend all your points in crush and duel wield. Don't level parry at all until you get mini levels starting at 40.5,41.5 etc

you get 30 points total. after putting in 10 it costs 2x per point, and after 15 it costs 3x.

15 str is the best because until you can afford a crafted/spellcrafted armor set you are going to want that extra strength. The more quickness you have the more often you attack, but for less damage. Polearm is a beast for Armsman because of this.

Hmm, can't decide, I want to be a kobold I think, and I want to be needed by groups both pve and pvp, but I'm also lazy and don't want so many jobs that I'm juggling 20 things at once and dying every 10 minutes, if that makes sense.

all of SB's damage is STR based. Norse is a bit better, but kobold can be hard to target if 2 stealthers appear at same time.

matter was a beast Pre-TOA healing wards. you just spam AE dots from a tower and can fuck up alot of people. Spirit is the best for 8 man's because you get access to a -50% resist buff to body/spirit/energy. You basically follow a main assist if you have multiple sorcs/cab's and cast that debuff and nuke the crap out of them. If you aren't going to 8 man I would recommend matter for AE dot's and farming pygmies and other camps with the AE dot. You can almost kill forever because you can summon your pet, "reclaim energy" type spell to get more mana and rinse repeat.

you have to either have to download the patch or install their custom launcher to install the patch. Once that is done you can use the SOL launcher if you want to.

So after 3 hours of downloading the launcher setup .exe
I finally clicked to launch it, it then asked me to point to where the game.dll file was, so I couldn't figure out why it thought I already had the game files somewhere so I exited the set up to look it up, and the 3 hour long download now reads that it failled to download, which is bs because I was running it a sec ago, look in downloads and it's not there, so here I go downloading it again, wtf, where it go?, why was it thinking I already had the game dll files?

Mind sorcerer :) Mez is the shit and you can charm some really fun mobs like telamons (the giants in black plate armor). Body sorcerers do a lot more damage themselves though and it's easier to solo with them.

I was a polearm armsman on live all those years ago which was fun too.

We do have a group bonus for grouping. There are other bonuses for leveling in RvR zones. These bonuses seem to be working. The goal was to encourage people to work together AND to be in the frontier zones where RvR can (and will) take place. Some groups have been planning where and how they would level for months. These people participated in our beta and learned where the good leveling spots are for their play style. We did observe organized groups leveling. Some of these groups have been playing together IN DAoC for 10+ years. They have a plan and work/play to the plan. They use voice comms to keep their team focused. They level rapidly.

However, our game's leveling isn't designed JUST based on groups like that. This is a game where you CAN level up solo, or duo, in small groups or in zergs.

And of course DAoC isn't primarily about the PvE experience. It's cool that some people CAN level quickly to become ready sooner for the RvR experience.

Prior to launch, these forums had many posts saying leveling was too slow. Now, we see some people say it's too fast. We've told you before that we could adjust the leveling experience ON THE FLY without even needing to reboot the server. I had my finger on the XP adjust button all night (no it isn't really a button), and I never saw the need to use it. Some people were leveling fast and some more slowly. It's an MMO. People have different play styles and we aim to provide a good experience for all. We shall continue to monitor the leveling aspect of our game over the next few weeks.

In my opinion, to refer to our XP system (which is designed to encourage grouping) as a bug is misleading. You can discuss how you think the design could be improved but please don't call it a bug. Our devs have been working on this game for six years now and it's upsetting to hear their design called a bug."
