Hail, Norrathians!

In an ongoing attempt to streamline ease of use in the installation of Project 1999 and the Titanium client, I am putting out the call for anyone with experience writing technical manuals, or guides in general to aid me in this goal.

What I need is a simple, clear, and easy to follow guide on how to install the Titanium client, start to finish, from an ISO. It can't contain any links to pirated software or how to obtain said software, but should include the steps on how to set up a virtual drive and install from that drive. Links to valid purchasable tools such as Daemon Tools or Magic ISO are ok. If anyone knows of a freeware or shareware program that can load ISO's, that should be included.

This guide does not need to include the actual set up of P99 (ie, unzipping files, setting up eqemu or LS accounts, etc). It should be written in an easy to read format (think paragraphs, headers, etc) and in forum code.

The key to this guide will be ease of use. Try to keep in mind users who are very inexperienced with computers.

I have been thinking about writing this myself, but I've done a ton of P99 related writing lately and I was hoping it could be outsourced. If you are interested in doing this, it would help your community and be viewed by thousands of new people attempting to join the server.

Please PM your submissions to me in a private message. The forum code will be retained in the message, and I can edit it and post it with the code. If your submission is used, you will of course be credited with your work in the post. Thanks in advance to everyone who tries to do this!

Offer a Guise for the guide and I'm sure it will be done within 24 hours.

I'd do a lot more for a guise than write an instructional manual

So much better than Daemon tools.

The reward should be innate in helping your fellow community members and increasing the population by aiding new players in getting set up.

Also, staff notices these kinds of contributions to the community, so there's that.

Great news to hear!

Please keep in mind that the single biggest obstacle to doubling the playerbase or even tripling, is the fact that it is relatively difficult and time consuming to get into the game an playing.

Please remember what deru said about making it Total fucking idiot proof and laid out in specific detail every step.

As a fellow computer retard, this will be hugely beneficial for me and countless other players who view getting into P99 as a headache.

It's easier and faster to just extract all the files from the ISOs into a folder using 7zip, and install from there.

Daemon Tools Lite (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/products/dtLite) is the free version of Daemon Tools, and that's more than enough to mount an iso to a virtual drive.

why would you have people mounting iso`s when they can just extract it with isobuster for free.

Good luck trying to get someone to mount an iso

Because the installation process is classic.

Directly extracting the files is easier, but mounting an image isn't exactly rocket science.

Hey, thanks for being constructive and helpful. If you would like to write a guide that is an easier, more simple method of installing Titanium from an ISO, please do so. Otherwise, please take your sarcastic comments to RnF.

I dont even know what an ISO is and i know more about computer jargon than the other 5 people irl that i could get to play here for years if it was an easy process getting into the game.

Im the guy you need to be making this for, remember that.

Would you be interested in a video or only a forum post?

video for mac and PC, in a very detailed manner would be absolutely glorious.

Unfortunately I could only do one for PC. I do not have a mac. Do you run it in a windows emulator, or is there a mac version of the titanium client that you use?

What OSes are we talking about here that should be covered? WinXP is getting sunset in April, Win7 and Win8 are out, IDK how many Mac OSes are supported (or how much that matters), and then there's Linux, Unix, BSD, etc.

I have access to a linux and mac, but I'd have some difficulty covering windows without extensive use of WINE.

To answer Lron & Grimfan, Titanium is PC only. Mac and Linux use WINE to work with Titanium.

Well, a Mac installation guide would be greatly appreciated if you'd be willing to do one. I know that installing Titanium on a Mac can be a pain, even for someone who knows what they are doing, because it seems like a lot can go wrong.

I had Windows in mind when I wrote this, the version doesn't matter *too* much, although I know Windows 8 is quite a bit different then XP/Vista/7.

Here's a video I did last night on how to do what Derubael is describing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD3DSc-aglE

I went on ahead and summarized the process and sent it to him as well. If anyone is interested in making a better video, I'd say go for it. I know it's pretty average.

There's a decent video on how to get 99 working on a mac as well, and I'll have a second video showing how to set up an account and everything later on.
