Im just starting out and i'm torn between playing a War or Dru. I would really like to play the warrior but i'll be noobed out gear wise and i'm not sure how grouping will work out. What should i expect for group availability. Im surprised by the server numbers but are they strong enough to roll a warrior from scratch at this point?

There's really two different classes of "newbie".

"Veteran" Newbies - Played on live and have a good idea of where to go and what to do, but don't have any gear advantage or player connections whatsoever.

"Actual" Newbies - Never played EQ before, taking their first dive on P99. Comparatively rare.

If you're a vet newbie, your first priority on starting on a server as aged as this one is is to get some cash flow. Play a decent solo class that can either finance what you need or get it another way (druids are excellent for this via ports and PL, necro for farming drops, etc). Then use that cash flow to twink yourself on the character you'd actually like to take to the end game based on your preferred play style.

Actual newbie, you can go that same route, but I suggest not. Play what strikes you as the most fun. You'd do well to research how people like their characters at the high end, however, as it takes a significant time investment past a certain point (as an example, a lot of 60 druids lament their grouping experiences and have a hard time getting into high-value camps or being viable raiding). Don't let that stop you, it's just something to keep in mind.

Good luck.

Greetings

Im on uk time never struggle tooo much finding a group . However as some said above i personally would look into the classes and decide from there. Wouldnt say its impossible to roll a warrior n play with noob gear but would be harder than say a necro or druid..

My experience i played a wiz then ranger then bstlord on live now i play a necro as main and have a ranger also. If there was 1000000 druids on here and you wanted to play a druid .. Do it.. If you wanna play a war.. Do it.. This game is frustrating at times but if you enjoy your class it dont matter imo.

If you group alot you will end up finding regular partners etc. so yeah.. Whatever you decide is the right thing to do

I would definitely pick sha/necro/dru/Mage for your very first char. Warrior will be boring without gear.

If you want a warrior, just roll with it. Get levels, be good to your groups, and I guarantee that people will notice you're new to the server just by looking at you and seeing that you're not wearing 50K's worth of gear. You'll have moderate gear and weapons by level 20 just from the kindness of the player base.

Don't roll up a class just to twink; that's the stupidest theory i've ever heard. If you want to play a Warrior, play a Warrior. You'll be amazed by how much help you'll receive, and you can easily tank your way through the content you're going to see. There are low level proc weapons that cost 50pp, and people will probably just give them to you. Don't play a class you don't enjoy, just to twink a class you do....that's such a waste of time.

Welcome to the server! I am also pretty new. I think it basically boils down to how you want to play. If you have limited time (in one block) and want to be able to just log in and get to it; a druid or another solo class is probably better. If you choose a druid just don't expect to get groups later on.

If you are in it for the long haul you can start an untwinked warrior just fine IMO. Plenty of actual newbs around (as well as a lot of twinks) at the lower levels, you just have to stay in the popular zones. EC > N ro/ Oasis > Unrest > MM etc. I would consider making a solo class for times when you just can't find groups or you are waiting for a spot to open up otherwise you might get kind of frustrated during those times when there just aren't any groups to be had.

I like having my druid because my play times aren't always predictable and being able to gate to wherever I want to level and get started is nice. I am also considering starting a more group friendly class for times when I have bigger blocks of time to commit.

Look me up in game as Brocktree with whatever you decide to make, I can meet up and port you if needed! Good luck

If I remember correctly - Orc Hill and Crushbone almost always have groups.

EC will probably be the least frustrating, however, as it has the advantage of asking Druids/Shamans at the EC tunnel for buffs at almost any time of day/night. Oasis always has groups going too.

Good luck :)

I like Blackburrow, it is almost always packed by people getting fangs and the first 12 levels fly by.

BB is nice, but I don't notice a lot of groups there. Its mostly people soloing for fangs.

Thanks for all of the great responses everyone. I guess i'll go with the warrior and push through the lower levels with nominal gear. I am a vet of EQ so the knowledge will help even if it may be frustrating at times. I was afraid of playing the DRU route to twink a character because i don't want to invest time just to get burnt out from the same grind twice. I'll be rolling a warrior later tonight! Thanks for all the advice and if anyone can recommend a new player (albiet vet) guild i'm all ears. I'm a mature (31yrs old) social player and would love groupage (especially being a warrior :)) I'm usually online from 1030pm - 2am central. Cheers!

I fired up an iksar necro when I returned to the game (week of thanksgiving or so). Ended up grouping a couple times with a iksar warrior who was brand new to the server. Last time I saw him (around christmas) he was level 42 and looked to be doing reasonably well for himself gearwise (nothing crazy, but he held his own).

Just an anecdote of it not being that hard. However, if you find yourself at times not able to find groups then you could start a druid and solo it during those times and just periodically do searches and try to put together groups for your warrior while leveling the druid.

3 birds, 1 stone (always something to do, group with your warrior as much as possible, generate income to feed the warrior).

I don't like this advice for anyone. The time it would take to level a class to the point it can make a decent amount of money + the time required to make that money is not worth the twinking you can get done with it. You'd spend DAYS /played just to make like several thousand pp. That kind of money isn't going to buy a warrior better gear than he could get handed down to him just by playing and making an honest effort to be good, informing people he's brand new and untwinked as a consequence, etc. Plus if you go right into the warrior in this case, you'd already be playing what you really like and earning xp on it and etc.

we are so far into kunark, decent gear so easy to get. i met a brand new warrior the other day. had donated pieces of crafted, hp rings, and decent kunark weapons. the random shit that drops in kunark is completely overpowered compared to classic loot and warriors didnt have a problem leveling then. so dont worry about farming or gear like tecmos said, itll come. alot of times there will be a fungi twink in group anyway carrying the whole group pre 30s hehe

maybe ill prove my point sometime. make a dark elf/gnome warrior completely naked and see how fast i can get geared by just people feeling sorry for me.

Half-elf female warrior for maximum white knight gifting!

Make what you want to play.

Find me on any char in my sig and I can throw you some starter weps / gear. For a war I believe I have like a kunzar ku'juch, shimmering partisan, couple of HP rings, etc. You should never make a character to twink another character, unless you legitimately like both classes.

Personally, I don't play gear dependent classes unless I can twink them - but that's because my favorite classes are not gear dependent, and the others are only fun to me if I am nigh invincible.

Half-elf female is miles behind a wood-elf female. They look like prissy dykes, however they do have a coolness factor to them. Dat robocop helmet.

Hey I heard you like wood-elves so I made a wood-elf to play while you play with your wood-elf.

Le sigh, no bullshit - i was planning on making a DE warrior. I know their stats are broke but damn that plate looks nice on 'em.

So make a dark elf warrior. Points into sta/str and you should do pretty well. Won't be like an ogre/troll/barb warrior but there's no substitute for playing what you want to play.

I'd go with Warrior once you're able to gear it to the teeth, but that's me. Pure caster will be so much less gear dependent.
