Here's an idea I have been tossing around with Bob. I don't know if people will actually use it, so I am interested in gauging a response from the community. I will not charge commission on anything, it is simply a listing of what people are looking to buy or sell. However, I may play with the idea of people posting premium spots (think ads) or highlighting their listing for some platinum.

It will be extremely useful statistically to figure out the trends of item pricing and to see how much people are paying in order to maximize your profits or reduce getting played by people who abuse newbies.

Here is the current concept:

Let me know what you think. If you like it, what features would you want?

I don't like it because abusing newbies is classic.

I like it, I dislike being abused :D

But in all seriousness, getting people to use this will be the challenge. I would love to use it myself though.

I think it would be nice, that is, if people actually use it.

so you want to create a web based auction house via chat logs to circumvent there being no auction house in classic?

I dont like....

now if you wanted to create a site like EQPRICES.COM was id be all for it.

Bazaar without the lag.
EC without the trains.
I like it.

It wouldn't replace EC, you could gladly keep spamming your auctions in EC. It's more or less for people who don't want to sit around in EC or are looking for items that are going to require them to spam it for months. I won't be providing any sort of functionality for communication, you'll still have to talk and trade with people ingame.

There's also no reason to start QQing now because there is already a website showing graphs with min/max and averages of item pricing using logs from EC.

I think just the ability to post a WTS or WTB that lists the item, the seller's name, the price, and the date of posting will suffice. I would prefer if the item linked to the Allakhazam entry.

Your design seems to cover those bases. The only other feature I could see would be a "notes" section that could hold seller/buyer comments about trades or any special arrangements.

I agree that in-game communication remains essential.

I had run similar projects in other games - the real challenge is getting people to use it. In games where the server population was 3000 maybe 15-20 people would stop in - most of them were plat farmers I'm sure.

The concept is great but I find people are generally to lazy and wouldn't be bothered.

Not the same idea at all?

Not classic. Thumbs down.

People didn't post stuff for sale on a ton of sites like Allakhazam? Lol, please.

This is probably the biggest problem, but it's also the biggest solution. Once you entice a good amount of people into it, the people who do not like it will either be forced to use it or be left out. I've got a couple ideas on how to bring people in.

Oh hi. (http://www.project1999.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27)

I guess that's why I don't understand the need.

Oh hi. (http://www.project1999.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27)

I guess that's why I don't understand the need.

Because a forum isn't the best way to organize what you have for sale, especially when people rarely update their posts. It's also kind of silly to have to force bump your posts every day.

I'm simply offering a more structured and functional version of that forum, yes.

Oh, by the way, that forum wasn't in classic either. :roll eyes:
