I really don't understand how poopsocking became synonymous with "buffing an alt army and camping out at a raid target". It's got nothing to do with the original definition.

What it used to mean, and actually means in most other MMO's terminology, is to be at the computer for an excessive period of time playing, to the point where you can't use the bathroom for fear of leaving the camp... thus forcing the player to shit in a sock / piss in a bottle. Basically it means excessive dedication to the game at the cost of all else (girlfriends, job, bodily functions, hygiene, etc).

So yeah, basically P1999's definition of poopsocking is incorrect and needs a separate definition.

"Batphoning" is simply a mass-message to members of a raid group who may or may not be online to assist and engage a contested raid target as soon as possible, usually done by text message. In the old days a viral buddy system was used (A calls B,C,D. B calls F,G,H, C calls I,J,K, D calls L,M,O, and so forth until, very rapidly, a raid is online. Modern usage is A,B,C or D blasts a text to A-Z on confirmation of a popped target).

Not that I've tried (or have I?) but shitting in a sock must be quite a messy experience. I assume it's only ever for the unprepared as a glass/bucket would be waaay more suitable Hell even a piece of paper would be better than a friggin sock.

I poopsock many camps, some are 16 hours straight. It might be why all my socks are going missing..I don't know it could be the goats from Narnia that are in my dryer..either way I play a lot of EQ...

I tried explaining poopsocking to my friend, basically I told him that the most dedicated people sit at a spawn point waiting for the mob to spawn for 20+ hours.

He has played wow so he understood the concept but I don't think he really grasped just how extreme it is to sit at a spawn point and stare at the ground for up to 90+ hours waiting for something to just appear with no idea when it is actually going to pop up.

If variance/socking were classic, how far do you think everquest wouldn've lasted? I'm guessing we MIGHT have seen a velious, would never have gotten past luclin,.
