Just curious but is this allowed? There's nothing more frustrating than getting multiple mobs on you knowing that you have a guard or two at a close by Inn (which is also stated in the Project 1999 Wiki), to have some higher level kill the guards.
As we all know EQ1 is already somewhat of a grind, but to have this just makes it worse.
Is this something that is allowed on this server?

I remember petitioning about this back in the day after I died a few times running to where there should have between guards and instead there was some gnome mage. The GM said there was nothing he could do about it, guards are just as viable as any other mob. I ended up just hanging around and ninja looting the dead guards to get back at the guy.

I think I actually bitched about this back in the day leveling up.
Now it's transcended from classic to nostalgic.
Either way, get used to not having guards. They won't be there to save you later on when the stakes are higher.

Sorry bout that. But yo, fuck Seargent Slate.
Fuck him right in the ear.
Edit: Also, for all you know that racist-ass, power tripping white guard might have jumped a peace-loving Leezard on his way to the annual necro convention. Got what he deserved. Stay proud my brothers. Gray power!

Guys, this is server chat. Aren't there some rules? The first like 6 responses were sarcastic and most of them riddled with curse words. Didn't Deru post something about trying to keep Server Chat a bit more welcoming so new players don't get turned off thinking the community is a bunch of 14 year olds?
No theres no rule against killing guards, generally if you call for help and the person camping there isn't afk they'll help you out though (it's considered polite).

I don't believe my answer was sarcastic nor rude. It was straight to the point.

I appreciate it. :)
I have pretty thick skin anyways so no harm done. I wasn't about to do /ooc in the game regarding this and I didn't want to harp on the guy that was doing it so I figured I'd post a thread here and ask just what the rules were regarding it.
And honestly, the only reason why I asked about it is I ended up getting accidentally trained by someone else and I was near one of the inns at EC and when I ran to the guards, someone pulled them away from me so I couldn't get the mobs killed. Not a huge deal though. It happens.
No surprise that a simple question from a lowbie would be greeted in this fashion. The rule of thumb nowadays while remaining anonymous on gaming forums is to sound snarky and rude to others to elicit chuckles and laughs from other obnoxious people who think it's cool. Curse words add bonus cool points too, btw!

Your best bet is running to ec tunnel.
it might be farther away but there are usually 10 to 15 max level chars who will kill it then usually heal you/buff you up and send you back on your way.

I recall this being an issue with guards at entrances to cities and they eventually buffed them up to prevent this so that brand new players had guards to run to.
The ones out and about in EC and similar zones weren't buffed up with more health/resists/harder hitting so people ended up killing those guards instead

Classic. During early live a buddy and I would train the Warrior GM (Guntrik) onto unsuspecting Druids killing Oggok guards for xp/loot... it was a real hoot! When GMs got involved we just claimed that we were role-playing.

Yeah and I bet if you had a 11 year old daughter you would love letting her read this thread.

Most of Everquest is centered around killing NPCs. Roaming guards, guild trainers, the occasional Nek C merchant - all fair game.
By the way,
Yeah and I bet if you had a 11 year old daughter you would love letting her read this thread.
This is the dumbest thing I've read all day, and I've been reading 50 Shades of Gray since 6AM.

I was reading far worse when I was 11.
As was my daughter when she was 11.

So does this mean that bankers and merchants are fair game too?
I recall on live there were issues with people pulling the Gfay banker all the time.
But I suppose if they are NPCs just like everyone else...

Merchants and bankers give no exp, but if you feel like wasting your time/mana, be my guest

I just was clarifying, I am not enough of a train/troll to do such a thing.
Just find it strange for people to "get their lols" by training people for no reason. But hey, I guess the world is filled with your goods and your bads.
