I have to have a rogue epic weapon at level 9?

I just started playing this game barely two days ago. I haven't played since 2001, and I've been trying to decide between two classes. An enchanter and a rogue. I've been kinda leveling up both some. Enchanter is 10, Rogue just hit 9. I get into a Crushbone "wall" group and some guy looks at my gear and says "why don't you have your epic equipped?". I said that I didn't have one and that I just started two days ago.

He acted very surprised, and said that if he was the leader he would have booted me immediately.

I have pretty thick skin in general but being that I JUST started the game, am I wasting my time trying to level a rogue up? I know they can't solo, but if I'm going to get inspected and then denied a group because I don't have an epic weapon then I guess it really narrows down the class selection...

What say ye? Or should I use the term people use and say on these forums....

Lol yes the server is old and generates comments like these. Play what you want, and to be honest, you don't want to play with players like that, I woulda just left the group and played my chanter after a comment like that. Rogues are fun and I knew many epicless rogues leveling up and they all got their epics in their 50s. So don't be discouraged by one player or the few peeps posting here. Epicless Rogue dps is still better than some dps and definatly better than no dps. When I look for members I don't care what gear they have, just as long as they know how to play their class....I've seen a lot of new people with crap gear do better than some twinks I've seen runnin in cb. Go own it, he's just jealous he's not a rogue.




By all means get your epic as soon as you can save 45k or do it yourself, whichever comes first.

its not needed...with the current economy and state of multiquesting, you can buy one for about 45k or less so many low lvl rogues do have them. cleric epic is same deal, but a bit more expensive. most epics still not for sale, but pieces of them frequently are.

bottom line is that nobody expects a new player to have expensive gear. well, idiots do. and you just bumped into an idiot.

OK so I quested everything myself up til the final general fight where my Europa pals all helped me finish it. General dropped a Cazic Quill too which was a nice surprise :)

To the OP:

There are still many people who think being "over-twinked" is a flaw reflective of player skill. While this is certainly the opposing end of the spectrum, you'll find that most people fall somewhere in between (twinked; but not ridiculous).

Not everyone is going to judge you by your gear based on longevity. As on Live (and in RL), there is that self-perceived "l33t 3lite" 5% who feel they deserve the best of everything, including group-mates. Just add them to ignore, and move on :)

the way i see it is the guy is a druid in a group. I would of responded back to him the same, druids are worthless pos in groups and if i was leader I would of never invited him. Then I'd tell him to go re-roll. People respond back to you better when you one up them and give him facts that even if he has invested 20-30k into his gear that you could still out perform him with a rusty dagger.

Like I said he didn't sound like he was joking, and me being a brand new player who is still learning things I would not have realized this. And this isn't the first time i've heard about rogues not getting groups because they didn't have their epics yet. I guess all those people were kidding too.

Monk is not more fun than Rogue. Rogue never has to worry about pulling or tanking, can focus all attention at being a meat slicing machine. That to me is far superior than some over-hyped bruce lee wanna-be.

EQ gameplay is one dimensional in total. Sorry but if you are looking for some strategic complex gaming then even the busiest ENC isn't gonna be too impressive and this game is not for you, move on. Rogue = best DPS in the game and is always at the fore-front of the fight. = fun.

Everyone besides the tank should be at the back anyhow, I don't see it as that big a difference lol. Not to mention as a rogue I get to use swords and armor. Way more my thing than a robe or a gi

A well played rogue can handle the worst mob bounce imaginable and still land backstabs in the right spot on the hit box. That's the skill of it. That's the fun of the class.

Rogues are awesome. GL to you. It's hard coming into this server as a pure melee, period. You have a long road to being a high end rogue, but it's so rewarding and you'll appreciate it more for the hardship.
